What 250r ignition setup? esr/cr250, FTZ, PVL

Ok I have found 3 aftermarket ignitions for the 250r and my stock unit is giving me headaches like no tomorrow. The esr setup is 550 and more then I really wanted to spend but if its going to by far outperform the others then thats fine I'll buy it. The FTZ and PVL look identical.

Thats the FTZ one. Here is the PVL.

Are these two units the same thing basically? Any help would be great hoping to buy an ignition so I can ride within a week.

the pvl and ftx are very similar if not the same and rebranded.

the CR250 set up is way easier to get set up right. the pvl isnt keysed so you about need a degree wheel to get it timed right.

i needed a light set up still and its lots of extra money to get a cr coil wound for a light so im going to try using a ricky stator system with a jansen super coil and a dyna cdi.

the only stock part i will hav is the flywheel and its been lightened so my system should come out very similar to the cr setup, in theory.

btw ebay links dont work but i coppied the item number out to find the auctions

So is the CR system worth the extra money? I mean there is a serious price difference, cr-550, ftz 475, and pvl 390. I dont really have any intention of buying the FTZ since the PVL seems identical for almost 100 less. So basically I am looking at either ESR setup for 550 or PVL for 400. Any know of any other aftermarket setups that are comparable? I saw a Honda series 2000 on ebay about 2 weeks back, anyone have input on that?

could just find a used 01 cr ignition and then buy the billet adapter from esr. prolly save you 100+

go with the CR, you won't be dissapointed, and you won't have to mess with a dial indicator to get your timing right.

I'm not sure about FTZ or PVL, but the cr ignition wont let you run lights... might take that into consideration if you already havent.

the cr igniton is nice, but its stall happy(untill you get used to it) and you can't use lights, either. If somebody made a cr ignition that could use lights that would be the best of both worlds, as you can get up to a +14oz flywheel that will solve the stalling problem. I know they have cr500 ignitions that can power 80w, more than enough for dawn/dusk riding.

I could swear I saw somebody once that engineered a CR250 ignition with lighting coils, but I can't seem to find it now.

I saw them in a dirt bike aplication also. I think e-line sells them, but it included a new side cover that only fits the dirtbike motors.

I switched to the cr250 ignition, I have no trouble with stalling.

I got the complete ignition of ebay for $200, then bought the esr plate for I think 80. So 280 for everything......

They want 550 on esr I believe.......

I think FTZ have their own timing curve witch thats what they told me so i got it runs great but on the side has pvl stamped on it
