Can I modify a stock throttle cable to work without the TORS?

I just got my second Blaster for my son and it came with the twist throttle and the TORS removed. I got a stock thumb throttle and it did not work with the twist throttle cable. Can I make a stock throttle cable work with the TORS removed or do I need a special cable?
