What happened?????

So I rode today for most of the day and I went back home and decided I was going to ride up the road a few times. I washed my quad first because there was mud everywhere and then I started it no problems. I go out to the road and get up to third gear and the sucker just dies I mean literally just stopped. I go to start it up and all I hear is clicking everytime I push the starter. What could have happened?

either, timing is off, or check your stator or coil, wires in one of those 2 areas must be broken, or rubbing together causing a short out.

Not to be a smart a%% but is the fuel on? I turn mine off when I wash it cause I stand it up.

you gotta short somewhere.
I got one too, cant find it. Mine clicks the same way. But will still start up.

Not to be a smart a%% but leaving the fule on while washing it isnt gunna cause it to click but not start.

Yeh all that it does is click down by the battery and I put my hand down there and I can feel it move when I hit the starter. Could it just be the starter?

Posted by: billyboy

sounds like the noid went bad.

^ yep. A buddie of mine has the same prob with his 400. He has to keep on playing with the start button but it will crank eventually.

he didnt mean that you left the fuel on and some how got water in it, he meant that the fuel was turned off so when you went down the road, you eventually run out of fuel in the bowl. I have done it a few times

Before you start replacing things make sure all the connections are clean, dry and tight.

Mine did the same thing but the battery cables were loose. Might want to check to see if they are tight, b/c it stopped my problem.

Posted by: firefighterjosh

Let it dry out and see if it starts up

My king quad did that. I sunk it got it out and it just clicked. I looked over everything and when it dried out it started again. Guess thats what I get for not dielcetrical greasing it

Posted by: j450rking

unhook the battery cables and clean them and make shore they are tight and then try it. thats what mine did

Posted by: GOTFEAR

Do it spin over fast or slow like compression?

Posted by: Phillburt57

It doesnt spin. I had a friend with a 450r whos starter spun and it sounded like a kazoo, but mine just clicks really loud but it wants to crank over I can hear it.

Posted by: blasterandy

sounds like a noid. My breeze did that. If it was a bad battery connection i doubt that it would have just shut off though. Normally it won't as long as it is still connected, it will run bad like sputtering and poping. Turn the headlights on and see if they still are as bright as usual. If not it prolly is a bad connection. But i really believe its the solinoid(sp).

Posted by: Phillburt57

The light works great. If it is a solenoid how much will it cost and how the heck do I change it?

Posted by: blasterandy

get a service manual

or there is a loose terminal or dirty terminal. i would try cleaning them and tightening them

Posted by: firefighterjosh

Try jumping the selinoid with a screw driver. If it starts theres the problem
