aprilia makes a v-twin dirtbike that puts out 70hp. the engine is suposed to be smaller and lighter than a 450 single cylinder. this engine was designed to be very compacted and light with tons of torque so i think it wold make a great canidate for a hybrid.

nobody likes this idea? they also make a 450 engine w/ smaler bore/stroke. the only catchup is that ama only allows singl cylinder engines

Doesn't aprillia use Can-am or BRP Rotax motors? If so that would be a great motor.

No it's not a Rotex motor. It was designed by Aprilia and built inhouse. The first two years have reliability issues...you can read about it here:
Her's a thread that might be helpful: http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/sh...ghlight=Aprilia

I have found a source for crate engines and they are around $2800 for the engine and you need a wiring harness and ecu and other accessories. I was considering putting one in a Cdale frame. They really wold be the ticket for a quad. PM me if you want contact info for the engines.
