I just removed the front sprocket from my o6 450er. I thought everyone was gearing down with a 13tooth. so I went out and got one. well as soon as I took of my stock sprocket it was a 13tooth. what should it have stock?? I bought this atv new 2weeks ago. should I get a 12tooth?? I plan to setup and use for racing harescrambles/xc and trail riding.

The transmission ratios are different on the 06+'s. You shouldn't need a smaller front sproket. I put 18" rears on my wife's 04 and went up to a 15. You dropped to a 13 for trail riding and stock sized tires on the older one's.

i use the stock 13 for trails, but a 12 tooth is a must for the dunes. i could barely get into 5th gear the last time i went to buttercup with my 13 tooth.

I have a 12 on the front of my er with 20 and some times 22 for the winter. I ride the woods and mx alittle but I like it, you lose a little top end that some would not like. I like the slower first gear for the very tight stuff, and riding with my little boy he is only 4.

She has the 04 model. If you have the 06+ you shouldn't need to change your front sproket. If you feel like you are losing something with 18" tires, drop the back a tooth or two. Front sprocket changes are fairly dramatic. You fine-tune with the rear. If you plan on using stock hight tires don't change the gearing. I thought the gearing was fine on the one I rode. It needed more power.
