My spark plug rubber boot is ripped & taped. Are the 250x & 300ex the same coil? Or will I just have to use one off of a kicker quad only?
Thanks,
Dave

they're the same. you can interchange them.

Thanks! Does anyone make a high performance one like an MSD?

just replace the spark plug boot

I will check! Should I do a search on 250X high performance coil?
Thanks,
Dave

I'm not sure that the spark is hot enough! At night I only see a white spark.
How can I check it with a meter?

Not sure, bought it already done. I was told 285.
Did it, now the coils that they have look to me to only have one wire for the primary.
Is a universal one OK?

you need to get a manual. there's resistance specs for the coil and stator. start with that, then you'll have a baseline. its tough going on the color of the spark, especially if you're trying to kick it and look at the same time. a whitish blue spark is normal, yellow or orange is weak. to test coil outout, both from the cdi and from the coil itself, you need a peak voltage adapter for your DVOM, because the cdi fires so quickly the meter won't pick up an accurate reading. the easiest way though is to swap parts with known good ones. if you don't have a manual let me know i have one and can look up the specs. i would stick with stock electrical parts they're usually the best. plus your coil only puts out what it needs based on the voltage requirements of your plug, so unless you have super high compression or run a large gap those high voltage coils won't do much.

dork,
I have a Clymers, my set back is that I don't know what setting to put the meter on to check the coil for resistance.
Thanks for the explanation of HO coils, sort of like hooking up a heavy wire to a 15W bulb, only uses what it needs.
Thanks,
Dave

just buy a new coil its just a waist of money to buy a prerformance coil. and too hot of a spark will put a hole in your piston.
anway if you stuck to the idea of a high performance one i would look at nology coils.

Thank you for the reply Xater! I will jus get another stock coil!
