San Bernardino, CA - The second round of the ATVA MX Nationals is underway in sunny California, and unlike the past couple of years in February, the weather is picture perfect this March with a light breeze and comfortable temperatures.
The track is a monster with three huge hill climbs and the lap times are running nearly 3 minutes long, which will mean for an only 8 lap Pro race, but there will be plenty of opportunities to pass on this wide open track in sections.
Posted by: Admin
The only bad news is the poor turnout for the race with only about 275 entries with just 15 entries in the Pro Class.
Kawasaki Team Green's Jason Luburugh and Josh Creamer are among the 15 Pros as they debut the KFX450R at Glen Helen

After watching round one, #53 Kory Ellis is geared up for round two on his new Suzuki LTR450, and he appears to have the track dialed in for today's race.

Live Coverage of the Pro racing action will begin around 3PM Eastern and again at 6PM Eastern

That's real easy to say now, but when they were the only ones of the big 4 to step back into the factory support, they were the greatest right? Or how about when they were the only "factory" race bike on the market of the big 4 and everyone was racing them. Just stop with the Hypocrasy and let Yamaha come out with something better (that goes for you to Jack
)
Posted by: motox450r
it isn't all about the motor, it's the person operating. it's not a bad thing to have a top of line motor either. lol
Posted by: pitmomts
Chad is wicked fast this year, and will likely be on top! We all know Natalie is the "Ironman" and will be on top, too. Those Rage ATV engines - again, wicked fast.
Thanks so much for the live coverage! Wish we were there, but even reading it is exciting!
Posted by: motox450r
it's real easy to be on top when your the only thing out there. i have nothing against yamaha. just don't sit on your butt when the competition fly's by. so don't let a few words get rise out of your levis. remember talk is cheap. sorry if i struck a nerve.
Posted by: 400grl
The YFZ was the first of the bad***** 450's to come out and whoop butt for a while......it's 3 1/2 years old.....I have no doubt Yamaha has spent this time coming up with it's predecessor....and it will also kick butt.
I personally wish it wasn't all about who built who's engine, but who can ride what every normal person has to ride (without buying a new engine every moto)....oh well.....
Back on topic - GO NATALIE!!! Ellis SHOULD do well on his home track......Glen Helen is all about corner speed and picking the good lines through the rough stuff......definately looks like Ellis is enjoying his Suzuki!
Can't wait till moto 2!!!
Posted by: LTR450_#67
Yeah I Ellis is doing pretty well on them stock a-arms..lol, but yeah this is pretty much Kory's track so it is kind of expected.....He's one of my fav's. The Kawi's look like they might need some more fine tuning. Chad has been working his tail off A LOT in the off-season so I'm rooting for him. Honda is REALLY looking at him since Alabama..... C'mon GUST it's not time for you to burn out yet, I know you got some more wood to add to the fire!!!
MOTO 2?????
Posted by: JDMXKID
Just some of my thoughts...
Not trying to put anybody down here, keep that in mind. But Wienen losing the weight that he did helps on a motor. Regardless who is building it. Baldwin has a great motor, Rage has a great motor, and many others as well. Motor is important, but ya'll forget that the rider has a lot to do with it. Not only have a quad that is up to the challenge, but a rider with the speed, knowledge, and endurance.
Way to go to ATP for Lawson getting 2nd in the holeshot!
Something a friend of mine told me last night, "When a rider does poorly, it is blamed on the motor not having enough power. When a rider does great, it is then the rider." We are contradicting ourselves there!

Yeah that wonderful Vortex ignition did cost him a good finish in AL, and now it must again be a Rage issue huh?
Get a clue kid.
All these builders in the Pro level make serious power and push it to the edge so dont be so quick to call foul on a builder, wait until you DO know what is going on.

It seems they all mey have had a failure today.

Well, I was told right before the moto they realized Wienen had a cracked head. So they changed that out right before the moto. And obviously still ran into some sort of mechanical problem. They aren't sure yet what happened. So in time.

Thats what happens when you run the compression ratio of a powerstoke deisel!!!
Posted by: Blindkaeta
Thats sucks for Chad. Sounds like he was on the way to another moto win.
Posted by: motox450r
looks like honda and suzuki will rule this year, but not without problems. i wouldn't be throwing my money around on the kawi, it's to soon.
Posted by: motox450r
chad will be fine. i don't think he's running his new bikes until the first wpsa and then he will switch out every two races to a new one.
Posted by: 400grl
Go Nelson!!! Glad to see him almost on the podium with such fast company.......!
Posted by: pitmomts
Dang, what a bummer about Chad! Hope the talk about him didn't jinx it...
We watched him practice last weekend (see a few photos at http://www.jandjracing.com/gallery/v/3-17-07/ ) along with Natalie, Goodman and Greg Gee, and Chad was so fast, the way he charged corners, flew around the track, unbelievably fast! His wins are certainly coming.
Again, excellent coverage. Thanks so much for taking the time!
And by the way, Rage still RULES!

Was there a National was this weekend at Glean Helen? I did see some great racing but not mainly riders. Vender’s row was a joke. I saw more photographers that safety people on the track. The turn out what turn out may be one or two hundred that paid for the day. The announcers could only see about ½ of the track and were boring.
Posted by: FHKracingZ
Chad is talking with different factorys still for this year so its not sure if he will be on a diff bike yet. he bought 3 new 05's before heading down to texas and 3 spare motors.

I dont know, but isnt it a possibility that most riders are from the eastern side of the country and dont want to make the run over to California because of the time needed off of work and the distance to drive? And the vendors are the same way?

"I dont know, but isnt it a possibility that most riders are from the eastern side of the country and dont want to make the run over to California because of the time needed off of work and the distance to drive? And the vendors are the same way?"
NO! We have no reason to travel 3000 miles to race the 2nd rated ATVA circiut.
Most all are going WPSA thus being forced to drive to Cali is not required now. I say forced because anyone going for points needs to be at the races, especially the beginning of the season.
The vendors were chased away with unreasonable charges for the right to vend.

I have a question for all you bench racers.
Greg Gee raced pro last year. This year he's racing pro-am (which is fine) but he's also racing 16-24. I thought that would be a no-no??
Nothing against Mr.Gee, he's a good guy.

Yeah my friend Ryan Sindt of Sindt Motors sold him that stuff. Actually from what Ryan told me, Chad told him that Honda gave him a $10k credit on Honda parts. I highly doubt Chad will go back to a Yammy. I think he should stay on the Black#44 for now. I have a feeling Chad is going to be in the top 3 in the end.....
Ride on peeps...........

Some of ya'll people talk to much about people's personal lives.
Let's just wish all the Pro's good luck. And we'll see what happens at the end of the year.
Posted by: calds650
LT80 I due agree with you that it is second rate run operation. The bleacher were may be 1/2 full more like 1/3, last year they were 3/4 to full. This is the National Champion and they should travel across the nation. There should be a race up in the North West and in the Rocky Mountains area too. Then it would be a National Champion not a East Coast Champion

it offical Joe Bird is a CHEATER
Did any body here anymore about Joe Byrd cheating at Glen Helen some one told me they fined him $2,500.00 for moving the course markers on the parade lap so he could cut the track?

The ama pro official did fine him for sure. I over heard some one in his pits talking about it when I was getting his autograph. I lost all of my respect for bird I use to look up to him but not now that he is a cheater.

chad may be talking with alot companies, but talk is cheap and chad wants to run what he believes is going to give him the best shot at the number one plate. he has turned down alot already because he wants run what he believes gives him the best shot. i've seen one of his three new quads in person, i could probably tell you about 99% about it, but i was told not to. i'm not friends with chad personally, but do know somebody else. in my opinion he will be running his bikes this year. its plain to see that chad doesn't need millions of dollars to run with any of the big dogs. some people won't take free parts if they don't believe those parts will help them win. not many tho, most people will take anything for free. he passed on a free ride from golden west from what i understand. that is just my opinion fhkracingz.

Chads bikes handle as good, are as fast, and are every bit of good as the factory bikes. dont forget that

in the case of joe byrd he wasnt the only one doing that line there were alot of people taking it. he was just the only one that moved the stake so that he wouldn't run in to it or damage anything.

I was on the hill above the corner that Byrd was cutting. Natallie was the only other rider jumping over the corner with Byrd. Everyone else was too far back to see their line.

At the time I posted that, I had not seen or heard any of the reports.
