what dose it help and is there a down side to shorter valve guides??

Its needed on real high lift cams so the retainers wont hit the guides b/c the valves are being pushed down further....Not sure about what the downside is tho.

Could be a shorter valve and valve guide life. The shorter the guide is the less surface area the valve has to guide it into place for seating into the head. The smaller guide surface area will take more of a side force load and strain and wear out faster than stock. As far as how fast, it depends on how your motor is built such as compression ratio. Also depends on how hard you push the motor.

well i'm putting in a 416 kit with 11.1 piston and a stage 2 got cam should i get shorter valve guides??

No.

Depends on what stage 2 you got.. Hotcam and Magnum has a stg 2. The hotcam would be alright but the Magnum just might need them b/c its got more lift .
