I run full synthetic Mobil 1. I think it is 15w50. I will check the bottle later. If you change religiously get the semi synthetic. I am a little lazy so that is why I get the synthetic.

dont they have 2 seperate oils?
Posted by: Derno24
Yes gear oil is different. I use gear oil for quads, just make sure it is non-hypoid. You don't want to use sythetic for the tranny. I have heard that it causes clutch slippage.

u run tranny fluid same kind as a R would tak correct?
Posted by: Derno24
Yup, 2 stroke tranny oil can work. I think it is 80w. I also believe you can use regular oil in there too. I think 10w40 should do the trick. I do have to correct my self on the tranny fluid I am running semi synthetic.

I have a friend who is a pro and fanatic about his quads. He and I both use Klotz 10w40 mx4. I also use Klotz for the tranny.

thanks, so i should use Mobil 1 15w-50 for the motor and non-synthetic tranny oil in the tranny?

That'll work. Also remember the fuel filters. I have had mine in for a while, but you can get cheap replacements from napa. I forget the parts #.

I asked this question to the R&D guys when I was up at the factory, they said for the motor use full synthetic 20W-50 in the summer and 10W-40 in the winter. For the tranny use full synthetic 80W or 85W. Oils designed for bikes and quads is the best. They said Redline makes the best oil money can buy but its expensive. They said their test motors that run non stop for 100 hours at a time have less wear using this oil.
I'm using Motul 300v in the top end and Torco 80W in the tranny. Both full synthetic!

I run Castrol Syntec 10W-40. It's about $5 a quart, or you can buy it in a 5 qt jug for $15. You can do the math. I run Slick 50 80w full synthetic in the tranny. About $5 a qt. You can get these at any auto store so you don't have to pay the over inflated motorcycle dealership prices. Who cares if the bottle doesn't have a pic of a guy on a motorcycle.

Motorcycle oil is designed differently than automobile oil.

You may not want to use car oil for motorcycles or atvs. Something to do with the blend. The things to look out for are the letters on the back of the bottle. In your owners manual it will tell you which one's you can use.
My friend used car motor oil in a bike and it ate through the clutch. Apparently it is due to the additives they put in the oil.

i hear Mobil 1 15w-50 doesnt have the additive the rest do.

What is hypoid gear oil. Valvoline says recomended for hypoid transmissions. I have been useing Valvoline 80-90w for 5 months and no problems. The bottle doesn't say it's hypoid oil, just says it will work in hypoid trannys... Guys at Checker Auto can't answer my question....

Where ca nyou get Redline oil, and how much is it?
Posted by: Derno24
Hypoid is an oil that is used in auto tranny's...It is a certain blend. When I was using it (by accident) I couldn't find nuetral very well.
Let me rephrase it didn't eat the clutch on the bike it just wore the clutch down faster than normal (2weeks of heavy riding) He would normally get a year out of the clutch
