What Kind of oil should i be using for my 1988 Yamaha YFM 350ERU (Moto-4) Quad its a 4 stroke but it overheats ALOT? does the overheating have to do with something else? WHAT OIL

Try a good brand synthetic oil, should help the motor a lot. Overheating could be caused from other things as well. Jetting being one of them. Make sure the cylinder and everything is clean on the outside so that it can transfer the most amount of heat off of the cooling fins.

Running a to hot spark plug will cause overheating,

As mentioned above, air cooled engines need to be kept somewhat clean to disapate heat. As any mud builds up on a warm engine, just knock it off with a stick or boot.

I see so many quads running around with mud two inches thick and more on the air cooled quads.

It's like look at me, Mine is muddier than yours, that makes me a better rider.

Brake drag or dirt grinding in the bearings can cause overheating,

A good synthetic oil will not breakdown like a mineral based oil.
Therefore, not clog up the oil passages.
