does the cam and timing gear have splines on them where they go together??
I'm trying to remove the two bolts that hold the timing gear onto the cam , but they are not accessible unless I rotate the cam. But I need to return to TDC after the bolts are removed. will they still rotate together?
BTW--here is what my clearances are after the first 5 tanks of gas run through my R
intake: left-.005 right.005
exhaust: left .010 right .011

I used the 6mm hex/allen key that came with the quad to get to them small bolts. I would leave it at tdc and remove the bolts. Make sure you use loc-tight on them bolts when you reinstall.

Why cant you rotate it, take the other bolt out, slip the cam out, then rotate it back to TDC again?

yes, just rotate it. remember to keep the timing chain tight so it doesn't kink.

got'er all done & put back together...... and it still runs!!
not even any extra bolts.LOL
A cam swap wouldn't be too much of a big deal to me now. Save me $120 in labor by not having a shop throw it in.
