I'm looking for a 350x head, CDI, 350x/250x exhaust header, and oilcooler.

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

350x heads are hard to come buy for a good price... however the trx350 foreman/fortrax head is the same and can be found alot cheaper then a 350x head.. its the same thing besides the paint on it

Posted by: zell250x

Has anyone put the trx 350 foreman head on a atc 350x motor? I looked on a few Honda oem web sites and all the part numbers are different.

Posted by: 2muchquad

the 350x header is different from the 250x header, the 350x has dual exhaust ports, not the 250.The trx350 foreman head will fit the 350x.Honda has always used different part numbers through the years for various reasons, just like a cr250 piston will fit from 86 to 96 but the part numbers are all different..go figure.

Posted by: zell250x

ok thanks, but i meant a 250x/350x conversion header. I picked up a cdi off ebay so dont need one of those.

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

yes the forman stuff fits im just waiting on my gaskets to come in and im about done with the engine swap it prolly wont be rideable untill mid march to april... i need to get a shock relocator for the 250r front end and bearings for the swingarm

Posted by: zell250x

Im in need of a head. trx 350 forman or 350x head.

Posted by: 2muchquad

You could use a 250x/300ex head as well, you'll need to use their rocker cover though, the 350x one is different I had a 350x head on my 300ex so im sure it can work both ways.

Posted by: zell250x

Does anyone no if any dirt bike heads will fit the 350x motor? I have an old xl250 and a xl350 parts motors that have good heads and they both have dual exhaust port so i wasnt sure. Just let me know if you have tried anyother heads on a 350. The 250x heads only have one exhaust port so not 100% sure if that works and it might not have as much power as a different head would.

Posted by: 2muchquad

True, while the 250/300ex heads only have one port, you could use them if you had too.I would imagine the xl250 as long as it is 78 to 81 or so could be made to work with some mods. The xl350 if it is older wont work as i believe the xr350 first came out in 83 and it had a radial valve head, very similar to the 400ex and it wont work for you. They made a xl350 in the mid to early 70s,totally different.

Posted by: zell250x

Sorry its a xr250l not a xl250 and not sure what year but i would guess 1984 or 85. i dont think it will work but once i get the 350 bottom end i will tell you how it worked out.

Posted by: am_muscle

so if i used a 300ex head would i use the 350x cam or the 300ex?

Posted by: 250X_project

You would use the 250X/300EX cam, not the 350X. The valves would be smaller though.

Posted by: zell250x

Does anyone know if you can put the trx350 foreman rocker cover on a 350x head and use either cam shaft?

Posted by: 2muchquad

yes you can.The foreman cam probably has different specs than the 350x cam but it'll work.

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

I need a cam sprocket and cam chain guide...

Posted by: 2muchquad

i have a cam chain sprocket, your about 45min from me,drive down and come and get

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

really? if it the guy i bought the topend dosnt mail it to me i might just do that monday night... Were about do you live in ohio ive been staying in ashtabula for work.

i alson need a cam chain slider.. my project is on a stand still untill i locate these parts.. but i have the engine in the frame and the exhuast done and it looks sweet

Posted by: 2muchquad

i live by truck world mall in hubbard,i have xtra 300ex chain sliders but not for the 350x,just the ones for my motor

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

do you no if the chain slides from a 300would work or not? i have like 3 sets of them

Posted by: 2muchquad

i remember i was going to use a 300ex one one time.If i remember right the tabs for the exhaust side slide are smaller to fit the properly in the top of the cylinder.i was going to drill them out and use a dowel rod cut to length if i had too. They are slightly narrower but can be made to work in a bind. Not sure on the one thats bolted in the bottom end.

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

well the guy i bought the complete top end from is hopfully going to mail me everything he left out of the package... witch is sweet i got everything for 120 bucks..

Posted by: 2muchquad

well i hope you get it,anything related to the top end on a 350x is getting harder to find, especially USABLE cond heads I just bought one last week for $150,rockers have some wear, valves look beat but most importantly, the cam journals are good and all 4 exhaust studs are present

Posted by: dork

regarding the worn journals megacycle sells a needle bearing cam that fits in the stock cam bore journals and places like edco can weld the head and machine the journals again if they're really bad.

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

yes the heads can be repaired but it is also really pricey... alot of times when the journals go bad the cam does to like in my case. i talked to bud fischer and when i get my old head back from my buddy in flordia im going to give it to him. he might start making like a brass insert or needle bearing set up for a better price.

yeah mine are good,i heard about the needle bearing setup over on the atc350x forum and they are expensive.I wondered a long time ago why somebody doesnt make a brass insert or something for those heads.Hows that bike running Dork?

Posted by: zell250x

what is the best way to install cam and cam chain to get it timed right? Also i need the 2 head bolts, oil line and cam chain tensior if anyone has any of those parts.

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

my oil line got damaged so i used the 250x's oil line. i might have everything you need i will check witch bolts do you need? i know i have a tensioner.

Posted by: zell250x

are the 250x 2 big head bolts the same as a 350x? if so i already have all the parts .

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

Item to remove:
clutch cover
clutch basket
oil pump
crank nut and gears
head cover

put the engine at top dead center, insert the cam with both lobes down. Also have the lines on the cam gear line flush with the head. Now your timing is set..

Replace clutch cover gasket

Posted by: 2muchquad

Yes the 250x head bolts should work,i have used 300ex bolts before

Posted by: zell250x

ok thanks for everything. i will try to get some picture soon. i still have the 250x motor in the frame, i didnt want to take it out til the 350x was ready to put in so i still have somthing to ride.

Posted by: zell250x

what is difference betwen the 250r and 400ex a arms? which is a better setup?

Posted by: 2muchquad

250r a arms have wider mounts to where it fits on the frame.you'll have to use 400ex bushings on the 250r arms if you want to use them on your 250x.certain year 250r arms are adjustable though.

Posted by: lil rippers dad

if you use the 400 arms and shocks youll need to redo the top shock mount.

Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO

2much is right.. mine are from an 87 witch have the removable upper ball joint and you can adjust it.. im going to take the bottems to jb racing sumtime and have him set mine up for adjustable bottems as well

Posted by: zell250x

i need a 350x kickstart or is there anyother kickstart that will fit? Also will a 250x kickstart shaft fit in the 350x motor to put the kick start away from the case?

Posted by: 2muchquad

I guess the 250x kicker will work even though it is different slightly from the 350x.Its got a different bend i guess, havent personally tried this though but i heard they will interchange

Posted by: dork

yes they will fit. the 250x shaft is one inch longer, other than that it is identical. you can also use the 250x kicker as its a little longer for more leverage and it doesn't stick out as much as the 350x one.

Posted by: zell250x

the 250x kickstart wont fit on the 350 motor without putting the 250x shaft in it. i just didnt know if the shaft fit.
