Carbon-Fiber Spray Coating

I'm smack-dab in the middle of a winter rebuild on my YFZ and have been looking for something to set her apart from the rest of the crowd. I think I finally found what I was looking for. Alongside selling my TCS LT shocks on ebay (to be replaced by a new pair of Evol X's), I decided to send my worn clutch cover and cylinder head cover off to a company in So-Cal for a special paint treatment. Treatment's called hydrographics and the company I had do it (K2Concepts) specializes in carbon-fiber replica pattern.
The thing that really sold me on this is that the durability of it is rated stronger than powdercoating. We all know how beat up the clutch cover gets, and I don't want to have to re-coat it every other race. Decided to go with a red and black fiber color combo to match the rest of the machine. The images kind of make it look like a red/silver color combo but it's just from the glare off the clear-coat. Here's a few before and after pictures.

Looks awesome, let me know how it lasts.

Thanks, covers should be in late this week will update everyone later but the clear coat is rated with a durability stronger than powdercoating. Not terribly worried about strength

Not mine but done by the same company

I would love to get my clutch cover done.
How much did it run ya?

pretty cool for sure, its the same process they use to coat cell phone fronts, camo patterns to a zillion items etc.

Pappy hit the nail on the head. The owner of K2 actually developed a process to strengthen the coating over what had been done in the past by the other hydrographics companies.
Each cover ran 50$

i would take exception to the process being as strong as pc, but it has been used on everything you can imagine. without clearcoat, it will scratch like normal paint(its a graphic that bonds to the basecoat) and the clutch cover will scuff(sucks too because nothing holds up on them
)
finding actual info on the process has been hard for me (as far as suppliers) i was sent this info some time back to look into adding it to what I do for the future, so if your friend wants to send me some info I am all ears. the street bike and auto crowd are a wide open market for parts that are not available to be purchased already coated in this hydrographic process etc. all my attempts have led me to alot of companies that outsource the products
btw, the actual pattern is a graphic dip process in a water immersion tank. there is a base color and a clear sprayed on it however. still cool stuff!

Looks something like this right?

He was kind of enough to send a step-by-step walk-through to me
Give Jim a call Pappy...you never know what kind of good will come from picking up the phone. If not for business, at least for the spread of knowledge
