Here are some pics of my new project. It is a Laeger 250r frame and a KTM 520 motor. I have had quite a bit of fab work done to get it this far, but it is starting to pay off. I still have a little more to do, but it is getting real close to being ready to mock up and get it rolling and ready for PC and Chrome.

That's going to be a heck of a nice quad. Can't wait to see it done.

I like the fact your making a ktm hybrid, however you would have been much better off to raise your pivot point 3/4 of an inch then flatten that side rail like you did thats a horrible idea, no offense. that has to be a huge weak point though?
Posted by: jread14
Actually it is probably the strongest part of the frame. That rail is full of 4130. Then I have a 1/8" 4130 plate that will act like a skid plate and will be welded to the underbelly of the frame which should give it more strength as well. I just had a problem with moving it up beacuse of tank and frame clearnce. Just my opinion!!!!! I like the constructive criticism though... Thanks...

I was just about to ? u if you were going to gusset the bottom rail.
Looks like a fun project keep us posted

Thats sounds like it will work out. I'm not downing you at all the rest of the project looks good. I've done a few of my own conversion hybrids, and I'm riding a lsr yzf now (well almost, mainly looking at it) good luck though, I am considering a ktm myself, but again I'd just go to lsr because they are right down the street. I do enjoy all the fab work and touble shooting, but its also nice to just bolt it on and go.

Not a problem, and like I said before, I like the criticism. Oh, I would no doubt be down there (LSR) this second if they were in my back yard. I would also already have pics up showing it off if they were doing the work as well. HA!!!!! This has been kinda slow but well worth it...

Is that a SX, EXC, or an MXC engine? They are all faster than any 450. If you've got an EXC or MXC you can chunk the E-start, heavy flywheel, and six speed for quicker revs, or if you have the SX you can add all that stuff if you want. These engines are very versatile.

It is an EXC... Why would I want to chunk the electric start?
Posted by: protraxrptr17
I was just saying you could if you wanted quicker revs. I also said you could add it if you wanted. The one way gear for the starter is pretty heavy and so is the flywheel for the charging system. But some people like it better with the extra weight.

Cool... I understand what you are saying now. Good info! Thanks..

You also have about 5 different cam profiles to choose from. CDI boxes are also different between different years and models. The '03 SX had a higher rev limit (11,500 I think). KTM ended up recalling them because the '03 450SX had problems with a bad batch of titanium valves. There are still a few of those floating around. I'm going to get one myself someday. Don't really need it, but I thought it would be cool. These things dyno graph probably is a straight line.

Thats good stuff... I am so ready to get this thing together. It is killing me. I have been working on it for almost 2 months now, but I should be done in about a month.

jread14,
You might think about an additional gusset at the axle bolt pivot area. Check out the pick of Ed's Arens frame at www.teixeiratech.com/images/ktm%20frame.JPG
I have seen this on some other frames, namely ones from PRP.
