So i have had my YFZ for a year and a half now its time for a piston. I figured now that im tearing it apart i will make a project out of it. Heres the plan: Athena 480cc kit
Get rid of the yoshi
HMF Ballance series
CV Radiator Hoses
High Flow Impeller
Radiator (not sure wut brand yet)

These are some pics of the tear down.
Ill post some pics of the progress when i get the parts in!!

Posted by: YFZ#426

Posted by: oldskoolex400

looks good, who rebuilt your front shocks? can you PM me with that info and how much it cost?

thanks

Posted by: YFZ#426

My 480 kit came today. Now im waiting on exhuast and some other stuff!!

Posted by: z400rida44

it looks good, but i gotta ask, why are u going with the hmf over the yoshi, did u not like it? or are u just trying something new?

Posted by: YFZ#426

Dont get me wrong but the yoshi is an awsome exhuast. The problem was that it was really starting to come apart after every race. I would have to say that it is not very durrable. I also think that HMF really has a good product for atv's. I have tested there exhuast systems and I love em!!!

GIT R DONE

Posted by: YFZ#426

Posted by: YFZ#426

here is another shot of the new cylinder. I couldnt put the head on because it is getting cleaned up. It should be done next week. By then i will have my new exhuast and a new timing chain guide which broke.

What made you go with the Athena V.S the Ice cube ? Im trying to decide what I want to go with.

Posted by: YFZ#426

well the ice cube is double the price and is basically the same kit. So i guess the price was the main thing!!

I installed the Athena kit and the WR crank in my 04 YFZ.. Your going to love the power difference. It's nice to be able to run pump fuel and have a power house between your legs.

You wont be able to tell any difference between the Ice Cube 98mm Vs Athena 98mm kit.. However, you may be able to get a higher compression piston with the ice cube.. Then of course you should be able to tell a difference.. The difference isn't worth the price increase..
On top of my head the Ice Cube retails for 1200.00
I sell the Athena kits for 635.00 shipped (big price difference.)

Good luck on your build!

Posted by: YFZ#426

thats excatly right.

Posted by: Glenyzracer25

you wanna sell the yoshi?

Posted by: YFZ#426

sorry i already sold it on ebay

If you're still looking for a radiator, look into the one Laz has at GT Thunder. It's a bit pricey, but it's by FAR the best radiator I've seen yet. It's got extra size where it counts (actual cooling area) not just on the holding portions on the outer edges.

Posted by: YFZ#426

new impeller to try and cool that motor down. Im gonna run a stock radiator for now and see what happens.

Posted by: YFZ#426

here is the completed motor with new radiator hoses!!

Posted by: YFZ#426

here she is all done except for the exhuast. That should be coming soon. Now the jetting fun begins!!

Posted by: fastleo

tell me how it allgoes after you get it dialed in

Posted by: STEVENJANNA

I love the build but, the dirt, my God the dirt . I'm just really retarded when it comes to the fact that everything has to be spotless before I open up anything mechanical. Very informative though.

Posted by: mjpridered10

wow sick build bro

Posted by: YFZ#426

well as of right now the quad is done and jetted. There is minor adjustments left to do. I will post some finished pics when i get my suspension back. I just sent out the rear shock to get rebiult and new springs. And for the 480 i did get a chance to ride it alittle. The power comes on early and is very very smooth. I didnt really get on it because i wanna break it in. The new exhuast is great and everything is working very nicely. Thanks for the comments!!!
