put on 300ex shock

Just got my rear shock on. It wasn't to hard after we found out what size washers we needed. I haven't been able to test it to much yet, because I can't go off of jumps (snow) But from what I can tell by just riding around is that it soaks up bumps a LOT better, and the whole quad is more stable. It lowers the ride hieght by about 2 inches on the softest preload setting. If you guys have any questions on installation just ask here.

Here is my old shock on the quad

Here is the new shock on the quad

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

Close up of the bottom mount. I had to put a couple small washers on each side, same with the top. I also had to drill the shock mounts slightly larger. I went from a 10 mm bolt to a 12 mm bolt. Thats about all the changes I had to make.

Here is the old shock off the quad

Here is the new shock off the quad. It's off an '07 300ex. You can tell it was BARELY used. I got it for 85 bucks off of ebay.

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

Another view of the 300ex shock. It makes the 250 handle better too because it lowers the back end slightly.

Thats all the pictures I have, if you have any questions or requests for certain angles of pictures, just ask.

thanks for the info.future upgrade

Posted by: 250ex13

Do you plan on doing the front end also?

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

I might do the front, still haven't decided. People that did do the front shocks said that you should get wheelspacers to go along with it, I don't know if I want to put that much money into it. But I definatly reccomend doing the back!

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

here are some pictures from far away

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

I wish all this snow would melt, so i could actually test this shock

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

thats it

Posted by: 250exkid

dang man im liking it! how hard was it to drill it? and would it be easy to screw up?

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

Um your shocks on upside down.

Posted by: m.h.s.c.#527

yea it is

Posted by: hillclimbingrec

are you guys retarded? yes. dude, no it's not, i have it the same way, if you guys dont belive me go look at 300ex's. dumbass's

Oh ya i forgot that i dont own a 300ex.

Posted by: 250exkid

if you look at the bottom of it its got the tighter wrapped coil so there for he has it right. iv never seen the lossely wrapped on the bottom.... thats just what i have seen!

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

Thats the way it has to be mounted, it doesn't really matter anyways, it goes strait up and down.

Posted by: hillclimbingrec

lmao!! dude, u have it right, and the dude witht he 300ex, i guess you need to put it back then, cuz yours is wrong

Posted by: 250exkid

soo whos right?

it really doesnt matter either way. the spring is still undergoing the same amount of stress at each part of the coil as it would mounted the other way. you guys all just need to chill and actually think about it. the softer part of the spring will compress first no matter what.

Posted by: 250exkid

lol yea what he said chill!

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

Everybody- On the 300ex that shock would be upside down. The only reason it matters is because mud, water, or dust might get down into the body of the shock Throught the shaft seal.

Hillclimbingrec- You dont have to make an arguement about this all i told the guy is that the shock is upside down. Also i wanted to know how your shock is working for you because in the one that sold it to you. Ive been trying to get ahold of you but ur pm box is full. I hope it all worked out for you with out any troubles.

Posted by: hillclimbingrec

lol, dude, it's friggin AWESOME!!!!!!!!! jumps SOOOO much better, i can go round 6feet high and land flat and not even start to bottom out, it's awesome!! thanks again!!

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

haha, Im glad to hear your happy with it because i have been stressed out about it since the day i sent it off. I was wondering if you could leave me good feedback in the traders feedback section. Thanks

Well I have a shock cover on anyways, so I dont think it will be a problem. But like hillclimbingrec said, its a great mod!

It's not that hard to do, you have to take off the back plastics to drill the top mount and take off the left rear tire to do the bottom one. The hardest thing was finding the right washers to put on to use as spacers.

Posted by: 250exkid

ok but isnt the holes threaded??? tho cuz the stock bolt has no nut?

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

Yes, the holes are threaded. When you drill it out (15/32's size drill bit if i remember right) you put the new bolt in, (has to be smooth where the shock rests on the bolt) and then you can just put a locking washer on along with a nut.

Oh alright. i guess it wont matter for you then.

Posted by: 250exkid

lol i would hope not................... hmmm ok i wouldnt be upgrading suspension for a wile anyways

Posted by: m.h.s.c.#527

i just put mine on i didnt use washers or n e thing where do i need to put them

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

you should of had too, they go around the eye of the shock. There shouldn't be any side to side play at all, that could screw a number of things up.

Posted by: m.h.s.c.#527

ok how many and what size washers

Posted by: oldskoolex400

just wondering, but if your going to spend the money on front shocks, why cant you use 400ex a arms and shocks if 300ex stuff will fit, i know the 400 stuff will fit 300's though, i havent dealt with any 250ex's tho

could you not run a raptor rear shock on the 250ex also?

Posted by: m.h.s.c.#527

yea a rappy shock willl fit

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

300ex front shocks will only fit on recons (somehow the mounts are different) and that's only the shocks, not the a arms. That would be cool though if you could

Posted by: oldskoolex400

any of you have close-up pics of a 250ex front end?

Posted by: oldskoolex400

still, cant you fab up some mounts to make the 300ex front shocks fit?, then if you could get that, you could put 400ex shocks on it? w/ a relocator bracket of course. i dunno, im just tryin to help you guys out, i have never owned a 250ex so i dont have much experience with them

Posted by: m.h.s.c.#527

heres my front end these r not 300ex shocks though

Posted by: oldskoolex400

anybody else? i cant really see the top mounts for the rez. and cant see the bottom for the shock, need one that you can get a better look at it

Posted by: ryanh250ex

300ex/400ex a-arms will NOT fit on the 250ex. the mounts for the a-arms are roughly .75" too narrow on the 250 frame.

Posted by: oldskoolex400

the mounts are .75 to narrow or the a arms themselves are to narrow?

the mounts on the frame.

Posted by: Kickstarts-suck

you cant use the raptor rear shock?

Posted by: oldskoolex400

yea, a 01 preferably, but you can use other years with some modifications

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

yeah you probably could assuming the springs weren't too wide, but I went with this because it was a killer deal.

Posted by: m.h.s.c.#527

u have to cut into the frame for the piggyback rez on a 3hundred ex so prolly wouldnt be a good idea on a 250

Posted by: oldskoolex400

yes, but i dont see why you couldnt use the 01 rap shock on it

Posted by: m.h.s.c.#527

you can

Posted by: oldskoolex400

quote:
you can

lol ok, that is what i said, we will leave it at that

Posted by: m.h.s.c.#527

all i said is it wasnt a good idea 2 use 2002 and up shocks

Posted by: BlasterEaten250

That would be pretty nice to have a raptor shock on it, and if you wanted to take it really far you could have it revalved for the 250's weight. I personally was just looking for something that would get me by for a year or two until I get a 400, and the 300ex shock is doing just that

Posted by: m.h.s.c.#527

u mean the 450 lol dont waste ur money on a 400ex

no, he means he'll take what he can get, which happens to be a 400. not everybody needs a 450 for trails, nor can everybody afford one. hes grateful for what he is given.

you wasted your money on a 250ex

i would rather have a 400 then a 450

exactly, unless you are a youger person that doesnt need something that big at the time (9-13)

thats purely your opinion, i respect that, i have/had both and the 400 was a long way from stock, i prefer the 450 now over the 400, not only the power, but tweaking on the suspension on the 450 over the past few months, it handles as good as the 400 now, however i will be looking into revalve/respring soon

m.h.s.c.#527 and Kickstarts-suck, lets keep it on topic here if you guys dont mind
