LT230 quad sport question

I am putting together the top end of my lt230 and I was wondering how to set my My piston the TDC I see the 3 notches on the cam gear but how do I know where the piston is???

Also what holds the cam in place from moving either forward or backwards there are no bearings. here is a pic

the fiche says a c clips goes on the cam here are the only 2 c clips I have with it.

never mind found the c clip it was in the bottom of the case
