The Great debate ..again.......

ARIGHT, I KNOW THIS TOPIC HAS COME UP BEFORE.... BUT I HAVE SOMEONE WHO IS DEBATING ME...

The question is.... What is your method of putting oil in your crank case? How much oil do you use? Do you use a predetermined amount of oil or do you pour it in until oil comes out of the check hole?

Let see what yall think!

I use Honda HP trans oil, and fill until it comes out of the check hole, this is the best way to do it. period.

i also use the honda hp oil, and i have a clymer manual that says how many cc's of oil to use, then i use a measuring cup and dump it in. if you take the oil check bolt out, its right there and comes out a little bit. Corey

i use pj1 clutch tuner light weight. i pour until it seeps from the check oil hole, replace the plug, then add a dab more.

Pour it in until it comes out of the oil level check hole.

I have always heard that this will underfill your trans, but I have never checked to see that it is true. (I know this is the case with the Honda CRF's, not sure about the quads.) I can not do this as my trans check bolt is JB welded into the case, previous owner must have stripped it. I would say the best way is to put the amount the service manual states, 600 cc's. I use the honda HP trans fluid and my ratio rite. (Actually, I put about 625 cc's in mine.)

I dump the whole container in, the extra oil can't hurt things.

I think that's almost 400cc's more than Honda says you need.

Posted by: deathman53

I have done this for about 5 years with no transmittion problems and long cluth life.

Golden Spectro 80w. Pour till it comes out the hole.

I just dump 3/4 of the Golden Spectro bottle in. I don't take the check plug out anymore because I know this is a little more oil than the manual calls for.

I do the same thing, better too much than not enough. No transmission problems.

I use about 80% of the bottle on the HP Honda 85W gear oil specifically for the TRX250R and CR transmissions. I tore into my lower end and it still looked brand new so I would definately suggest this oil to any R owner.

I don't know if it's the same for quads, but I know too much oil can be bad for a car. If you get too much in when the engine warms up the oil will get thinner and expand. I guess you can figure out what this will do to your oil pressure.

Posted by: rider250ex

fill it to oil check, take it up and down the driveway once then fill it to the hole again

Posted by: deathman53

well, last I looked 250r's didn't have oil coolers, oil pumps and such. If you said this for a 4 stroke, I would agree.

Posted by: chris46250r

I pour it in untill it comes out the hole, put the bolt back and clean up my mess, then pour more untill it comes out again and call it quits.

Posted by: rider250ex

the oil level still drop a little once you ride it around. not much. but thats just what i do.

atf till it comes out of the hole.change it every couple tanks of gas.
