I have a freind that is try to lighten his dvx 400. What all can be taken off safely?

ummm.... fenders... lol

i'd like to do this also but there is not much you can do about it except go lift some weights and ride the thing everyday then the weight wont make a difference.

This is going to be a mud pit skimming bike, so it need to be really light.

shove a ktm 435 motor in a blaster +1 swing arm some paddles and go for it lol. that setup is pretty dang light.

but seriously i don't what the hell you can do to make it much lighter...? mine is doing nothing but getting heavier!!! skid plates and axle and a-arms and all that... much beefier than stock. i'm hoping there will be a significant difference when i get some 18's and 20's on the thing.

Change the pipe to carbon fiber or titanium, cut plastics, go to aluminum sprockets, carbon fiber wheels, lose the tool kit(probably not a good idea if just trail riding). And go on a diet... may shave 10lbs off.

my buddy just got all 4 hipers and he said they were actually a little heavier than stok rims

Of course they are, they're beadlocks. Compare them to another set of beadlocks and you will see a huge difference. Here is some weight information on them:

Hiper Dual Beadlock 8x8 Rears w/ Kenda Klaw MXR (18x10.5x8) - 21.167lbs Each
Hiper Single Beadlock 10x5 Fronts w/ Kenda Klaw MXF (20x6x10) - 15.738lbs Each

holy smokes^^^ thats a big difference on a 4wheeler.

i never understood how a yfz or 450r can weigh soo much less, when generaly speaking they have bigger motors. what is so different about them that they are so much lighter?

Everything!!! First off no external oil tank... aluminum subframes, titanium parts galore, magnesium side covers.....

You could remove first and reverse gear, that'll shave quite a few lbs.

hey we have magnesium side covers... ecalled though cuz they said it reacts with the coolant and may corrode over time. I had mine done and it was replaced with an aluminum cover.

also i have heard that having the oil tank is good and it makes sense. there is more oil to cool the motor. but yes it adds weight.

how much do you think you could save with getting rid of reverse and 1st? it wouldn't be worth if for me but just wondering...

parking brake is a big one. front brakes if your extreme!

replace handle bars with aftermarket alum ones, aftermarket pipe. un nessasarys like bumper, fender mounts.
