how reliable is a Z?

How reliable are they i might get one cuz its got exactly what i want...

Posted by: DEAL

Meh i like the 400ex better, i smoked a Z400 in a long drag race with my 400ex, i dunno why the mags think the Z is faster cuz it isn't.
Those guys in the mag need to learn to ride the quads they test i think.

Posted by: 780RotaxBanhsee

i have heard that they are really reliable

Posted by: Wired

i think the KFX's look way better. something about the green with the front hood piece makes it stick out better then a Z.

4 months and counting. No complaints here, and I'm pretty rough with it. As far as who's faster....who gives a $h!t? I won't call the bike as reliable as the EX's have proven to be, but it has ONLY been on the market a short while. It all boils down to personal preference. This is a Honda forum, therefore the majority inclination is to direct you to Honda. Same goes at z400central.com for Z recommendations, and Raptor recommendations at Bluetraxx.com. Just take your money and get whatcha like. They're all nice quads (dont get a raptor *cough*) whether it be Honda, Zuki, Kawi, C-dale. Trust ur instincts, go get ur quad, AND GET RIDING!!!!

the motor is a proven motor, been out for a few years with little to no problems....only problems have been axle and the little spring popping off...thats about it...

Posted by: Wired

the axles are SOFT!!! both guys i know bent theres within a week!!! definetly needs an upgrade when you get it before you get into trouble!

You mean the wind up spring that makes it go? J/K

My buddy is likin his. Its all about bang for the buck I guess. Get what you want. there all clones any more.

You should consider the 400ex. They are selling new one for $4400 around here. I see a few z's where we ride and they seem nice but I am what you would call a honda only kind of guy.

So far I have only heard of the axles, a couple tie-rod problems, and the spring. FreeStylexrider: did the guy on the Z400 know you were racing? Since your word seems to go against everyone else's the say the Z400 is faster.

So much depends on the rider. I had a 400EX with a pipe and a few mods and I ran better times on it than I do on my Z because I was use to the EX and more comfortable and daring riding it. But I also smoked over and around Raptor's, Dale's and Shee's with the EX too. Not that the quad was more powerful... It wasnt. It was rider vs. rider. With the cheap prices new and used 400EX's are going for, you would be crazy not to pick up an EX and mod it.

My girl and I have had our Z's since day one released with no problems except for the brake light spring popping off which wasn't really an issue and a two second fix. Other than that, they are awesome. They start when cold first try every time, idling nice and smooth. And that reverse is so nice, and real easy to use.

Read the OCTOBER ISSUE OF ATV ACTION. They diss the 400ex but yet expert riders turn faster laps. They also say the 400ex is a begginer quad. That pissed me off. But in there test they warped the axle on both sides of the Z400 and claimed they weren't even rideing rough. Just get the mag and read it for yourself.

YES! lets all get mags to tell us which quad is the best and which one to buy. Or buy whatever you like and want. honda people stop your whinning

Posted by: Castor-426ex

that drz motor is tough...ive seen guys intentionally try to blow them..and they still run...

the only probs ive heard is that when you go with big bore kits..the valves are prone to dropping....no sh%& huh?

lol

its really kinda early to talk about reliability...wait till the end of next production year...then judge...i dont anything else will go wrong...unless a raptor designer had a play in building it..lol

Posted by: New-400ex_guy

i love my Z, i dont know about the axle being soft but i dont really jump unless on accident . it is alot faster than a regular piped and jetted 400ex. its faster than a stock raptor ( my z is not stock as you can see by my sig. ). i love the top end hit with my ct pipe. i ride only dunes so the fast high reving motor works great. the power comes on low like the 400ex but unlike the ex it keeps going all the way till the limiter. i cant wait for a 440 kit and longer swingarm.

Posted by: Castor-426ex

why aint you goin 450?

Posted by: billyblaster

My Z400 has been very reliable so far....i have had no problems.
I did drag race my friend that has a 400ex.....and i DID beat him by about 3 atv lenghts. the 400ex is pretty slow compared to a Z.....stock vs stock.

I ordered a KFX400 only because I wanted something new...and I am not prepared to wait for Honda to do something, we've been waiting too long now.
I wanted liquid-cooling mainly. Also a friend of mine owns a Kawi shop and I'm always using his tools and hanging around there, so I wanted to buy somethng from him.
I think the green looks pretty cool....the black nose peice kinda looks like an aftermarket hood at first glance..
From what I'm hearing...It sounds like it wont be long before I will be ordering an axle.
Also he wants me to race his Tecate next year.....I can't wait to ride that thing.

I'll wait for c'dale to get up here before i buy another quad.

AMEN!!!! The world would be a better place if people would go to school, and take a english class or use spell check..

Can you say,,,,,,,Run on, Run on, Run on, Run on, Run on...:blah

Posted by: sandman

i have read a couple of posts from members that said their z400 would die and not start after it got hot but when it cooled off it would start right away until it got hot again. I dont know if it is a issue with all z's or just a couple of isolated incedents....

It's a little game we play with lil400exman called "Where's the period supposed to go?" He intentionally leaves them out, sorta like a "Where's Waldo" of EXRiders.

Posted by: VooDuu Child

The starting issues were isolated cases. I like the period game; that's funny. Notice the use of the mighty semi colon!! Bring it on.
