'02-'06 Raptor rear shock

Last week i bought a '03 raptor shock and it works. I just wanted to tell everybody this because they only think that 01 shocks will work but you can make the piggyback rezzies work. All you have to do is cut the left airbox tube coming off the frame and it fits. So if you find a piggy back raptor shock for cheaper buy it becuase it fits also.

Pics will be up later.

Ya but the tube you cut shows not structural purpose except holding the airbox up. And the airbox still stays up without that tube but to each his own.

isnt that tube the snorkel? If you cut it you would have to block that hole off on the air box Then you motor would be getting less air. If you dont block it off you could suck water in.

Has anyone thought of mounting the piggy back shock upside down. Will that fit? Its just an idea.

I dont run an airbox lid. Also you cant run it upside down becuz the piggyback is to long plus the mount would be to wide for the top.

Oh Just an idea!

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

even if u had to you could clamp a hose around it and run it around the resivor

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

dose a raptor shock help much????

Posted by: bwamos

Nice post.

I also do not run an Airbox lid. I'd just plug that hole up w/ a piece of innertube and the old hose clamp. Plus weld a cap over the new hole at the frame.

If you got really creative you could reroute that snorkle.

None the less a good budget option for those not running a watertight lid on their airbox.

Much better than the stocker.. and it's rebuildable, so for a fair price you could make it a great shock.

I run a Works Ultracross in the rear of mine. But if I was running stock shocks, I'm sure I would be looking at a raptor rear revalved, and stock 450r fronts revalved.

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

so if its a 2001 raptor shock you dont have to cut the frame right????

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

You are correct. The '01 will fit without any mods. The reason for my post is most people can find other raptor shocks for cheaper and cutting the snorkel will alow the use of any Raptor shock.

Posted by: bwamos

Correct.. the 2001 is a remote resivour (resivour connected by a steel braided hose) instead of a piggyback shock.

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

This should be a sticky for all the people who have questions.

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

yea so are you saying the 2001 shocks cose more?

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

Theres more of a demand for the 01s because of the 300ex riders that want them. I bought my 03 for $70 while a week before hand an 01 went for $130.

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

so im guessing that you couldnt of just turned that raptor shock the other way and it fit im sure u did but idk if it would work?

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

I tried all possibilities and my way is the only way it will work.

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

well if a rappy shock would fit on my 300 would a 300 shock fit on the rappy because i know a guy sellin his raptor and we bught swap it sucks fot the buyer buts good for me

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

Im pretty sure the 300ex shock will fit but dont quote me on that.

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

lol thanks but now he sais he can get me yfz shocks for 40$$ woud they even fit he sais they will but idk

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

Front or rear?

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

If its rear it will not fit at all and theres really not possible way to make it work with out extreme fabrication.

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

both

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

Well the fronts will work with the shock relocator.

Posted by: Kickstarts-suck

nice! i need a shock now and i cant find a 01 but i can find like 6 piggybacks

thanks

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

nice! i need a shock now and i cant find a 01 but i can find like 6 piggybacks

yea i got the same problem

Posted by: Cody_300ex

I was gunna do this but i ended up finding a killer deal on a axis rear shock. I also dont run a lid on airbox, and when TT racing I run no airbox.

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

I should have a good full review once it dries up. Its been raining for about a week so i havent much rideing time yet.

Posted by: roanokee

Which Raptor was it? 350? 660? 700?

Posted by: Caseys 300ex

Its for the 660 but the 700 will work to.
