just changed the plates on a 04 660 and when I pull the lever there is no resistance. ive the adjusted cable. the bike has not been started or even cranked since bolting it back together. Will it get tight once the engine cranks and work gears or do you think i didn't get the gears together in the inner clutch workings. thanks

It sounds like you didn't line up the actuator arm correctly. The actuator arm is the metal rod protruding out of the top of the clutch case where the clutch cable attaches. You must line up the arm with the rod in the center of the clutch basket so the gears mesh together. If these are not lined up there will be no resistance, and no clutch pull either. I hate to tell you this, but it sounds like you gotta drain the oil and pull the cover off again.
Fiddle with it as you try to re-align the case again. Make sure you have resistance before you actually bolt and crank on the case.
