I'm getting a quad in May of this year and I've been doing some research and I'm leaning towards the YFZ 450. I wanted a 400EX until I rode my uncle's, they don't have enough power for my taste. But back to the point I'm turning 16 in may and I'm looking for a quad. The only thing i'm worried about is i only weigh 135lbs. and I'm 6' 2". Do you guys think that my weight will be a problem or could I manage? I've been riding pretty much my whole life. I previously owned a '87 Honda 250 and It was to slow and didn't have enough power for my taste. I have no problem controlling a 400EX at my weight but I have never ridin' a YFZ 450. I was thinking in like March or something I would go rent one for a weekend and see how I like it. Do you guys think I should rent one first or no?

You should stay away from the 450's. No offence but you can't be strong enough to hold on to one at 6'2" and just 135. 135lbs strung out over six feet is more like 250F or 125 dirtbike size. Start eating more. My sister is pushing 16, about your size, and can RIDE and she can't hange on to my wife's stock 04 450R. You use your weight too much on a 4-wheeler. You just need more meat. It would beat you around like a rag doll. Get a 400ex and give it a year or so. You'll probably start fill out a lot in the next year. Most kids do.

I'm 5'9" and weigh 135lbs and I own an 06 yfz450 and race mx with it and love the thing. The only prob I did find right away is that the stock fornt shocks will kill u if u ride in any rough stuff. I had a 400ex that I use to race and then bought a Predator and raced that (big mistake not really mx oriented) and swapped that in for the YFZ no looking back on my part. I'd say ride one only u will know if u are capable of handiling it.

Twiles-

The 400EX and the YFZ 450 weigh about the same, the only difference is the power, a 400EX is easy for me to handle on jumps and rough terrain. I might get a 400EX but they don't have enough power stock, I'm not looking to upgrade anything for a couple years so I want something that will have the power when I want it.... I've riden a 450r and It's pretty much what I'm looking for but from what people say the YFZ 450 is all around better than the 450r and I figured that there about the same power wise, but I've never riden' a YFZ so I can't really say for sure. If I've riden the 450r and feel comfortable with it should I get that one instead or go with a 400ex until I gain a couple ten pounds..... And just as a note I try to gain weight, I eat meat constantly but I have a really fast metabolism so its hard and I want to weigh about 170 or so, but I can't gain any weight, i'm even taking weight gainer as advised by my doctor.

I had a cousin the same way. He was 6'2"and a little heavier than you. Beans and taters are a good way to gain weight. If you eat that with bacon and cornbread and work out a little on your upper body you WILL build muscle. I know it sounds extremely backwoods but it works. I came from a well built family of Brick and Blocklayers. I wish I could lose some. I was 210 when I graduated 7 years ago and 250 now wearing the same clothes. Its all from the waist up and I really don't have much of a gut. I'm all back and shoulders. If you like the Honda, get the Honda. They handle better than the Yamaha and have less to break down. I'd get the 06 or 07. You'll like it a whole lot better than the 04. They have a better stock motor. The 04 and 05 stock give out after half throttle. The HRC kit is the only way to help it. I'm getting an 07 when I sell my WR and the HRC kit for my wife's probably before that. I'll have both to ride

450 for sure, as long as you are a smart rider i would see no reason not to get it, almost better in every catogory that i can think of. Not let people steer you away from not having enough to push the quad around they are fairly light and like i said with a smart rider you can and will be able to handle it with ease i suspect.
