Any sites on info on how to do this? i had an old atvsport mag but lost it... ive looked on powroll for info and cant come up with anything... i heard sumthing about goofy clutch cabel problems and such... what machine work needs done? i know i have to hck up the header. im gonna try mounting the bottem end in the frame tomarrow since my head is getting ported...

iv done a few of these swaps and never used the swap kit.
if you can weld and make spacers you dont need the kit
the only motor mount that realy gets changed is the upper rear one. you cut the left rear mount off and weld in threaded bosses or just weld the new mount to the outside of the frame.
as for the header it helps if you lean the 2 frame tubes in front of the motor forward.
i cut them right above the front mount and lean them maybe 4 inchs front then you can shorten the header and it looks great.
heres a pic of a shortened header . it hugs the cly but this is a rx not a 250x
i just did a 350x into a 250x frame for the 3rd or 4th time but wile im at it i always stretch the frame 2 inchs in the front and raise the shock mount and run 250r shocks....but thats just me..lol

ok that makes a little more sense.. the upper rear stock mount has to be moved to the outside of the frame? is that correct?
im doing the 350x swinger swap aswell and a 250r front end.. so far i got 700 in the project.. is there anything i got to worry about with clutch cables?
Posted by: SWIGIN
right, the basically rear mount just goes to the outside of the frame. and the other side of the same mount will need a spacer.
also the front lower mount will need a spacer as well...or you can do like i do and move or make new mounts to get ride of the spacer up front
as far as the clutch cable or any cables just use the ones for the right year motor your using....you can use the 250x clutch cable but the cable mount on the motor is different. thats why i use 350x cables.
i was going to do a 350x swinger swap on my first bike like this but the swinger is to narrow and you need to run a spacer and its not much longer then the 250x swing arm.....but it can be done

heres my buddys 350x/250x with a streched frame and plus 2 swinger....works real well

more........

one more thing we always did was to add 250r linkage mounts to the frame and we would run a custom swinger made for the 250r shock...the 250r shock is awesome next to the 250x shock
Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO
i ended up just taking about 2" off the upper rear mount and it fit right into place.. no welding at all i used a spacer from one of the engine mounts on the 350x trike and a washer on each side..
man i thought the stock motor was a ******* to get in and out of the frame
Posted by: SWIGIN
thats one way to do it but i dont like cutting the case down, but yeah they are a tight squeeze

is it easier to use an r frame then a 250x frame? I have an 86 r frame laying around and want to build a trail bike so once my 426 hybrid is done I am not riding that everywhere just wondering how difficult the r frame one is.
Posted by: SWIGIN
you can use ether but a x frame is easier
Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO
yea the x frame is alot eaiser to do.. but id rather have an r frame i think stock 88-89 r plastic is one of the best looking quads
it only took me about an hour to get the bottem end mounted in my x
swingin would it be eaiser to instal the topend in the frame or out?
Posted by: SWIGIN
you have to put it together outside the frame...even my custom r frame

any pics of a frame after its stretched? wont what you described put the stem out of parallel with the mount?
Posted by: SWIGIN
ill get pics in a week or 2
its not out of parallel but it does move it front...we use a 3/4- 1 inch spacer behind the stem clamp.
this helps the stretch feel since the bars are more forward
Posted by: SWIGIN
heres some pics...i dont know how to post more then 1 pic at a time
this is a different frame...not the one with a 350x motor but the stretch is the same.
first day of work
you can see my jig for holding the rake or tilt of the front frame piece

here i move the brake hose piece back to the splice
Posted by: SWIGIN
i cut out the stock brake hose mount and tube and used 1'' tube and moved it back to the slice and welded the mount back on.
normally i just put a threaded insert in the back of this tube since i use braided lines but this is what the owner wanted
Posted by: SWIGIN
just shows the length
Posted by: SWIGIN
this is how i gusset the bottom tubes
Posted by: SWIGIN
this is just a good way to add strength at the foot peg area ware they like to break...sometimes i add a shorter one on the inside too
Posted by: SWIGIN
last pic for now
next ill add the left shock tube and the new tube from the front motor mount to the shock mount tube.
but letting the right side connected keeps it from springing so ill rebuild the left side then cut the right side off and do that side
Posted by: SWIGIN
hers what i got done today
Posted by: SWIGIN
i tilt the tubes in front of the motor forward so a 350x header will clear, i dont like to make the header longer to go around the frame like most people do
Posted by: SWIGIN
just got to weld on the shock mount and some fender mounts and its done
Posted by: woodsracer144
dude what the hell are you doing? i dodnt really read at all but i dont get why your cutin that nice r frame all up.
yater
Posted by: SWIGIN
lol....i guess you should learn to read and also learn your frames then
Posted by: woodsracer144
dang !!!! well i geuss i'll have to read this long @ss thing some time when im not so tired!
Posted by: JIMFROMTEXCO
you have some nice welds. im waitng for my topend to get to me i got a super cheap deal...on a trx 350 top end
Posted by: SWIGIN
i finally got the shock mount done
Posted by: SWIGIN
this mount is for 250r shocks thats why its wide and high
