I've got my stock 400ex suspension on my project frame, excluding the front shocks. I was hoping someone that has the 400ex shock bracket could go and measure the exact distance between the stock 300ex mount holes and the holes in the bracket for the 400ex shocks. Also please measure the horizontal difference between the two holes. I plan on fabricating my own instead of spending $80 for some. Thanks for any help.

That's cool. Here's the measurements I need just to make sure it's the right ones.

So it's exactly three inches? How does it ride like that? Thanks.

Posted by: reconmaster

i checked with ym friend who did the mod for me and well its roughly 3 inches but he tacked it on bolted the 400ex front end on and set it till it was perfectly level. like its not a quick job but 10x more reliable then adding bolt on brackets imo. it rides wicked i have it on the second setting and rarely bottems out except when you case but i can say she can take some harsh flat landings also gusset your frame it all helps prevent cracks and what not big time. well before i got my durablue axle this modifacation helped quite abit in cornering and stability.
I strongly recomend when doing this modifcation for yoursafety and when you do sell your quad for that persons safety do take it to an exprienced fabricator!!!

If any one is interested, I have one of those shock relocators in by barn that I have not installed yet that I purchased. I can take pics and add measurements if someone is wanting to fabricate this themselves. It looked pretty simpple to build for me and I only paid 40 dollars for mine. Just let me know..

Thanks guys.

Boweman- Would you sell it?

so if i do the 400ex conversion kit i will have to get 400ex a arms 400ex shocks and the conversion kit is that it can i still use my stock brake calipers and what ever that thing is called i mount the caliper to and will i still use my stock tie rods? thanks

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

ok i know now spindles will my 300 stuff go on there like hub and will my caliper mount on it

i was looking for this bracket on ebay and wat it said answered a lot of my questions here it is

PLEASE READ BEFORE DOING ANY ATV SUSPENSION CONVERSION!

We all know that the 300ex and 250x are great quads but are seriously lacking in the suspension department. If you want to upgrade the suspension on your quad but don't want to spend $1000 to do it then this is the solution for you. This is a custom made, BOLT-ON shock mount that relocates the stock mounting holes up higher so your 300ex or 250x can use 400ex or 250r suspension components (400ex and 250r have the same stock front suspensions). This mount is made from 100% steel with fully welded brackets. It will come primered and ready for you to paint. All you need to do this conversion is 400ex or 250r a-arms, shocks, tie-rods, and this shockmount. The 400ex a-arms bolt right to your 300ex frame and spindles and the 400ex tie rods even work with your 300ex tie rod ends! Your stock brake lines even reach! Unlike other shock relocation and "widening" kits, this shock mount maintains the stock Honda suspension geometry and great handling that they are famous for. The a-arms mount to the original factory locations which maintains proper tie rod alignment and allows the steering and suspension components to work together as they were designed to. The tie rods and a-arms were designed to be on the same angle from the steering stem to the spindles. By using a "widening kit" and moving the a-arm pivot points outward, this angle is no longer correct and the suspension geometry is compromised. Width is not the only factor that determines how good a quad handles. Shock angle, wheel travel, and tie rod alignment are very important factors that are very sensitive to the handling of a quad. These factors can all effect bump steer, bottoming resistance, and responsiveness of the ATV. Unlike competitors "widening kits" that move the a-arm mounts outward, my kit actually uses parts that were designed by Honda to work together properly and mounts them in the correct location. By using 400ex a-arms, 400ex shocks, and 400ex tie rods, the stock Honda suspension geometry is properly maintained and handling and bottoming resistance is greatly improved! Many people ask me if this bracket will work with the stock 300ex a-arms and 400ex shocks, and the answer is yes it will work, but will not work nearly as well as with 400ex a-arms. This is because the ONLY way to properly gain wheel travel is with longer a-arms. My competitors would probably not tell you this in order to sell you on "width". Have you ever seen a pro racer ever use a "widening kit" or even wheel spacers? The answer is NO because they know the only way to widen a quad and increase wheel travel and improve handling is with longer a-arms! The other reason this kit works better with 400ex a-arms is because they were designed to work with a shock with a longer stroke than 300ex a-arms were designed to work with. I am the ORIGINAL seller of the 300ex shock mount conversion kit on ebay and have been selling this bracket for almost 4 years and have yet to have any break one or have one not fit properly! It is made to stand up to MX racing abuse! This bracket is also one piece, welded together, rather than several bolted together pieces which means increased strength and safety because it can not vibrate loose while riding. This kit is very easy to install, bolts on to your stock frame with no frame modifications and is removable if you ever decide to return your quad to stock form. The only modification that must be done is that part of the front plastic mount must be removed but it is very easy to do and explained in the included instructions. It does not affect how the plastic mounts. I stand behind what I sell and have received 100% positive feedback on every shock mount that I have sold. This kit also works with trx450r shocks (same length as 400ex) and they are highly recommended as they are fully adjustable and rebuildable. All my kits include mounting hardware and installation instructions. I am always available to help with customer questions and support through email by clicking "Ask the seller a question" at the top of the page. Reserve is $40, good luck bidding!

now it sounds to me is you dont have to get those brackets for the a-arms like in that pic you only need the upper mount bracket on the shock mount i think thats what im going to do if it wont work let me know thanks

Correct. Those brackets for the a-arms are only used to widen the quad while using the stock 300EX a-arms. If you use the 400EX a-arms all you need is the upper shock bracket and 400ex/450r shocks.

Posted by: lamonts 300ex

hey thanks a lot that cleared it up a lot for me

Posted by: 250X_project

You wrote a hole lot so I didn't read it all, but you could not use the 250X/300EX tie-rods with 400EX a-arms. Just get 400EX tie-rods.

Posted by: zell250x

i put 400ex shocks on stock 250x aarms and made my own mounts. i went up 3 in and over 1 1/2 in. if you go over much more then 1 1/2 in with stock 250/ 300 a arms the shocks will be straight up and down. i would get longer arams but i race harescrambles so i like it narrow. i used 1/8 in thick x 1in flat iron, and just made 2 idenical sides then had to make plastic bracket off those but i didit in a short period of time.
