how fast does it go??
Posted by: 05yellow400EXJV
If all stock probably around 35-40 mph.
Posted by: trompen542
stock with the 4th gear speed regulator in place, top speed is regulated by the cpsc to be 23 mph.
Posted by: ALEXANDERJASON
I JUST BOUGHT A 2007, AND IT IS EASILY FASTER THAN 23MPH. IT IS ABOUT AS FAST AS THE PREDATOR 90 WAS.
Posted by: trompen542
all 90 cc quads are regulated by the cpsc to have a top speed of 23 mph. If you remove resrtictor plates, cut pink wires, or make any mods they will go way faster, but the cpsc mandate is 23 mph.
Posted by: ALEXANDERJASON
THAT'S JUST NOT TRUE. I HAVE DONE NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE TRX90, AND IT IS FASTER THAN 23MPH. LIKEWISE, I HAD A STOCK PREDATOR 90 THAT WAS FASTER THAN 23MPH. CUTTING THE PINK WIRE (WHICH I HAVE NOT DONE) IS SUPPOSED TO BYPASS THE REV LIMITER IN 4TH GEAR, BUT THIS QUAD IS ALREADY FASTER THAN 23MPH IN THIRD GEAR.
I SPOKE TO RON MATTHEWS WITH THE CONSUMER SAFETY COMMISSION AND HE SAYS THERE IS NO LIMIT MANDATED BY THE CPSC, THEY JUST HAVE NO CONTROL OVER MANUFACTURER'S, THEY ARE A NON PROFIT GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION DESIGNED FOR CONSUMER AWARENESS ON DANGEROUS ITEMS IN THE MARKETPLACE.
I WORKED FOR A HONDA/POLARIS DEALER FOR MANY YEARS, BOTH SALES AND F&I, AND I CAN TELL YOU, WE HAD A POLICY IN PLACE THAT WE WOULD NOT SELL A YOUTH ATV TO SOMEONE THAT SAID IT WOULD BE FOR A CHILD UNDER THE RECOMMENDED AGE. IN EVERY CASE, IT DID NOT STOP THE PEOPLE FROM BUYING IT, THEY JUST WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND KEPT THEIR MOUTH SHUT ABOUT THEIR KIDS.
I'M ALL FOR CONSUMER SAFETY, BUT NO ORGANIZATION CAN MANDATE LIMITS TO THESE MACHINES. LOOK AT BOMBARDIER(CAN AM NOW), THEY DIDN'T LIKE THE "RULES" THAT THE CONSUMER SAFETY COMMISSION HAD, SO THEY DIDN'T ABIDE BY THEM, AND CONSEQUENTLY RELEASED THE FIRST TWO UP ATV ON THE MARKET AT A TIME WHEN RIDING TWO UP WAS REALLY FROWNED UPON, AND URGENTLY WARNED AGAINST (STILL IS).

The big manufacturers do follow cpsc guidelines, it makes for good PR, the knockoffs/offbrand are hit and miss. Some have rev limiters, some don't. As far as the 23mph limit, I've never heard of that, sounds really slow for a 90. more like a 50's speed. Please turn your caps off, it looks like your yelling

When we first got our 06 Honda with the pink wire cut it would run 43 mph. Fact! Now some mini engines are better out of the box then others, yours may very. This is a bone stock engine.
Now with a little work to the still 90cc engine it will go 50mph. And that is pinned.
Posted by: hondaman440ex
This pink wire that you guys talk about where is it? Our 2005 trx90 goes 25. And the engine isn't even hitting high rpms. If you cut the wire will it give it a better chance of blowing up?

Iv'e never actually did a speed test but 25 seems to slow. is the snorkle cap removed? take off the seat and at the front of the air box there is a cap that just pulls off, its on the air box cover or lid. can you give a little more info on youre 90. things you have checked or not checked. being an 05 im guessing you bought it used. buy a honda service manual on ebay for 35 bucks or so. it has a trouble shooting guide. i check these forums almost everyday i'll try to help if i can.
Posted by: hondaman440ex
We bought it new in 04. We never adjust anything on it. It is all stock. I will have to check that cap that you were talking about. My little brother rides it all the time. We ride with people that have those crappy e-ton viper 70's and I have always wondered why they always could pass him.

i didnt see youre mods on the 400 in youre sig before so you must know how to check these things out. pull that cap off and clean the filter. it should run better. i need to get a gps and see how fast my sons goes.
Posted by: hondaman440ex
We have cleaned the air filter, We clocked it on out 05 rancher. I know the speed is off a little bit +-2mph, I only mess with my quad but my little brother would love to beat those e-ton chinese junk!

after reading this thread i decided to check the speed of my sons moddod 97 trx90. his quad has a big gun full exhaust, k@n filter, and a high rev cdi. i was on my polaris 425mag, doing 45mph, and my son was pulling away from me until i told him to back off because i was getting nervous. with a few simple mods, these quads can easily push 45-50 mph.

The pink wire goes to the cdi box. Little black wiring harness box up front on the quad.

check out the gps times and speeds at mylaps.com most of the tracks top speed on the minis are around 23-27 mph and they are not topped out i know but the tracks do have a lot of long straight aways i just cant believe they can run much over 40-45 highly modded i have also ran a few minis on the dyno and only seen speeds of 48-50 and they will not get that high out side with the wind speed. We ran some flattrack on a strock car track and they had a radar gun the fastest 90 ran 47mph the open class 450s was top speed of 67mph this track was a 3/8 of a mile just my thoughts on this topic

also alot of people think that by adding power you gain speed but you really dont. unless you change gearing or rpm's you dont gain any speed. if you have a stock anything vs. a 200hp motor running at the same rpm youre going to do the same speed . you just get there quicker. this sounds crazy but its true.
Posted by: bracey
i agree with that
Posted by: cdevito
while doing adjustments today, I decided to cut the pink wire off of the cdi. It does make a difference. No speed O, but I rode next to my son with my 440 before and after and there was a huge difference.
Posted by: 400expower01
yea i topped mine out at about 180 but i felt like i was pushin it so i let off.
Posted by: realbeef
ha ha ha ha, thats funny(above me). but you will not gain any top speed by putting mroe HP its all gearing and tire size, now for real a stock trx 90 will not go above 30. get real people, and stop posting BS.
Posted by: ridered92
ok i got to get in here there is no way a trx90 moded with wires cut will do 50mph get real a stock 300ex will do 65 there no way a trx 90 will go 50mph get real
Posted by: FASTDAD-77
A stock 300EX will only do 54 MPH according to most reviews.
Posted by: ridered92
my bad ment to hit the 5 and hit the 6 on accident
Posted by: FoxHondaRider
stock 90 my guess is around 30-35MPH. now put me on it and it wont go that fast being 145lbs but still 90's go faster than 23MPH. my cousins gokart goes exactly 20MPH and you can fly by him on a 90 so 23MPH is deffinately not the top speed of 1
Posted by: Hetrick Racing
If in fact you get more RPM form your build you will gain more speed from an engine build, but that is the only way,and it is maybe 2 to 3 mph tops.Like they posted though it revs a bunch quicker,hp allows you to gear it to gain just about anything you want.
On my dyno a stock trx 90 no mods at all, makes 4.89hp 2.97ft lbs of torque and goes 26 mph.
Now before anyone gets upset understand every quad is different ,but I will say that was the average.
A built mini can reach 65mph without a problem.
but who runs them flat out anyway

In our experience, the only way to get speed is to do all of the above. We started out with jetting and a Biggun and it helped some but not on top end for the fact that the little atv couldn't reach the rev limiter unless the wheels were of the ground and this atv is raced by a 50 pound rider. (If you can't hit the stock rev limiter, it don't do any good to modify the electrical system to do so.) We latter sent one of our motors to SCR and it hit the rev limiter every time you hit the throttle and did gain a small amount of speed in every gear for the fact it could max out every gear and thats when we replaced the rev limiter and regeared it. I have bought several sets of sprockets in the last 2 years for different tracks we race so we can make the most out of the entire width of the power band. I feel unless you are racing flat track, top speed of most atv's are never reached. Everybody sets there machines up to run a little different but I set all of mine up not to win land speed records but to perform its best according to where it is being ridden or raced.

I'm with you so far. So how do we get these things to start winding up? The one we are playing with seems to be wound out on the track but still getting whipped. It is all stock but I do not think the resticter in still in place. We were thinking about a big gun exhaust to help out but like you said with out some sort of gearing change no speed change. How do you like your big gun? We are tring to decide big gun or pro curcuit. The kid can't hardly shift the machine either, so says the dad. So he leaves in 4th and just rides. Makes it real slow off the start but is up to speed by the time he is coming out of turn two (flat track). This puts him to the back of the pack and like you also said they are mostly all the same speed he can't catch any one that does not make a mistake. What do we do? If we get him shifting it will help and if we change the gearing that will help but if the machine is tapped out is the gearing going to pull the motor down more? Help!

I have a 1993 trx90 have had it since new the exhaust end cap is cut off and holes drilled in it. I can get it up to 33 mph anf 36mph going down a slight incline. so does cutting th pink wire really make a difference?? I love ripping around on my 90 im 20 and still love riding it ha.
