i cant get the upper and lower ball joints to stop spinning when im tightening down the spindle nuts..why is it doing this? niether of them did it on the left side, and theres nothing for a wrench to grab onto like on the tie rods. help me out

If you push the boot up you can just get a pair of needle nose vise grips in there, that will hold them.

The best way to take care of this problem is to use a C-clamp to put extreme downward pressure on the top of the ball joint to keep it from spinning. This works like a charm and is better than anything else I have ever tried - in fact it is the only thing that works for me.

thanks for the help, im gonna try maozs idea. i did what jeff did but the vise grips eventually became too big once i started tightening it down.

i used a impact wrench so it never got a chance to spin

howd u manage to get an impact wrench in there? i can barely get the ratchet and socket in there..

usually if there is enough play inside the ball joint to let it spin, its time to get new ones.....if those are stock a arms, at least they are fairly cheap...

Actually just because it spins does not mean it has gone bad - if so then all 400ex's and most other quads would have "bad" a-arms from the factory.

thats exactly what i was thinkin cuz the both of them on the left side didnt spin at all, i cranked them down all the way and they didnt budge...who knows i just wanna get it back together so i can ride

Perhaps you are all having better luck than I but I know for a fact that my 400ex's ball joints spun only 3 days after I bought it from the dealer and I know they weren't bad.

just ran outside and used the clamp, it worked awesome. thanx for the help maoz
