I was thinking today when i was lookin over my bike and the steering stem is bent pretty good. Would it be bard to make?

if you have the right tools to make it then it souldnt be that hard.

Just make or use the connectors off your old one and put a piece of solid 1/2'' steel between there!

my dad said that it would be a lot of machine work. I thought he was wrong I thought it was just a piece of steal and i was going to use my old connectors

If you had a welder it would be easy. Just cut off the bottom and top and weld them to a pipe.

Welding two adjoining pieces of tubing like that are not going to be strong at all.

After I bent mine I looked at trying to straighten it in a press and I couldn't make it work. I thought about doing the same as you but figured for the price, I bought a new replacement for something like $60. You had better have things perfectly lined up if you're trying to remove and reweld it back or your steerings going to be off.

With the materials on hand I couldn't find a way to make it work cheaper than buying a replacement, and this was doing it myself.

have you looked at a stock steering stem latley. the one on my 400ex has two half inch welds holding the top part to the tube. I doubt that strength is a factor for the steering stem.

really, you want your steering stem to be wweak, becasue if its really strong, the next thing in line to bend is the frame

An easy way to add length or to repair a bent stem is to cut out a section in the middle- if bent and add a solid piece or round stock that fits tight inside the hollow stem. This adds weight but is a way to add strength. I just buy new ones though.

it can be done. remove the section between the top clamp and the lower control unit and add another stick of pipe of the same size in there. while your at it ya can add length if you so desire.

as mentioned, you dont want it to be tooo heavy of a gage tho. i'd go with the same gage as factory.

what about heating it up and bending it back straight. I haven't done this, but it may work.

what about buying anti-vib handlebar clamps and building the rest yourself still using the base though seems like an easy way to save 300 bucks and doesnt look too hard

u can make anything.by time your have finish product u could just about go out and buy a new one.unless u can weild and fab everthing yourself.just remember stem r still made by humans
