My YFZ 450 will be sitting a while due to an injury. What can I do to keep the carb in the tip top shape it's in at the moment?
Thanks

pull the bowl and drain it completely. let it air out for a bit and then put the bowl back on so it won't get dirt in there. no gas = no gunk
or you can run winterizer thru your gas till the exhaust comes out smokey. that is easier but i would prefer the first option.

What he said^^
I like to use Sta-bil in my sleds the ride before i put them away so i know it gets mixed properly and then take the float bowls off and let them air dry over night. They always start next season fine.

Thanks guys. Is it okay to run stabil through my stock yfz?

I don't really see why not. I do it to my sleds, boat and my dirtbike in the winter with no problems at all. Might be wrong though if anybody knows different.

when should you do this to you machines.. cause sometimes I dont run my machine for like a month.. but sometimes im on it all the time.. how long do you have to store your machine to actually have to put Stabil in it or drain the bowl.. just wondering cause sometimes I run mine in the winter..

I run Sta-bil in my quad starting in late September when I know it's gonna sit for a while. I aslo mix my fuel containers with AMSOIL. Its suppost to prevent gumming of the fuel where Sta-bil prevents tarnish build up. As some have already recommended, pull the bowles off, clean your carb and let it sit 'n dry. When I know my quad is going to sit for a long period of time, I turn off the fuel feel and let the bike run until it dies. The gas these days suck...making carb work routine unless you take a few maintenance precautions like we've suggested.

Gas only last for about 1-1.5 months. After this It goes stale and can actually harm your engine (especially 2-stroke). We blew up a chain saw just about a month ago by using bad gas....lets the engine get hotter than good gas. If your machine is sitting (temperature change makes it worse) then use stabilizer and drain the carb.

pour stabilizer in the tank, and run it for 5-10 minutes, keep the tank topped up to full so the tank doesn't condinsate...simple. Never cleaned my carb since 2000...lol
