A 400ex with a ktm 450 motor

If you aren't worried about having to run the open classes, I'd say a Walsh/KTM 520. There's some pics of one around here somewhere but I can't find it.

Walsh with ktm 560 SMR engine with a 630 engine kit on it.

i got a 400ex/ktm450 hybrid this thing hauls... i can smoke the trx's,ltr's,and yfz's down the straights.... no problem.... its just weird jumping 60 to 70' in 2nd...

i found a pic of a 520 ktm 400ex hybrid

Who did the frame conversion on the 400ex/ktm520 and did it take alot of work?
Is 250r best geomentry to go for in motocross or is the 400ex similar ?

Posted by: gtilley45

The 400EX and 250R are similar. But personally, I think the 250R has better geometry but at the same time I think it's a little harder got get a motor like that in it. Unless you have the money to buy an aftermarket 250R frame made for the motor you want to use.

Posted by: nightmare311

the 400ex frames are bigger there for a little easier to install the hybrid motors...

Does anyone do a chassis so you can fit trx450r parts on.
The reason I ask is a secondhand trx450r will only cost about £500 more than a secondhand 400ex plus I have lots of 450r spare parts.

Posted by: gtilley45

The only TRX450R parts I've seen used on hybrids is the spindles, hubs, rotors, calipers and front master cylinder. As soon as I get the money, I'm gonna go with this setup on my 250R hybrid. The 450R spindles are supposed to be a good bit stronger as well as being lighter.

I am trying to decide wether a CRF490 or KTM520 into 450R chassis.Thought about trx535 kit but would cost £3500 in parts.

Tecate 4 engine in a 450 chassis

haha, i doubt that would work, and it would be hard to find parts for the engine

Posted by: Kansas400ex

so where do you find the KTM 520, or other dirtbike engines for sale without buying a whole dirtbike?

Posted by: HouserCRF450

laeger pro trax cr500 link, pep ti piggybacks, crf motor with falicon 530 kit

And then sell.

Rode one. The motor vibrates so bad your hands go numb in 15 minutes.

It also loved to vibrate until welds craked.

But it was fast.
