I was at a local atv event today and one of the events where stock 400ex races, I noticed some of them where running race fuel, is it bad to run race fuel on an engine that has no work done to it, just minor bolt ons?

thanks

Nothing wrong with it, not really necessary though, it just burns cooler and cleaner.

it will just keep less carbon buildup on the valves so it is better to run it anyways

VP U4 is NOT a good general use race fuel. It's oxygentated, expensive, requires special tuning and handling. VP is a good brand, but U4 should not be used by anyone asking about, "...what is a good race fuel to run....just an all around good brand..." U4 an excellent fuel...but choosing the right fuel is all about matching the fuel to the application. U4 isn't a good fit for most people.

krt400, I appriciate your enthusiasm for contributing but make sure you know what you're talking about before handing out unqualified advice.

ok, so it requires secial attention, but it will increase HP. that is why said that. i dunno how much in the ex, but in CRF450 it will give u 3 ponies

in my experience race gas on a stock engine doesn't do anything for added power, it does run cooler which is good for air-cooled ex's, but you can seriously gum up your motor with race gas if you don't need it, your valves and combustion chamber will carbon up like crazy, making it run worse in the long run. If you have a stock engine pump gas is better for your bike and your wallet, it just doesn't smell as good
