If i'm not mistaken these carbs were found on kx 250's, but iw as wondering what year they started putting them on. Would an 87 kx 250 have the A/S?

Doubt it... probly has the PJ.... 38mm PJ is still better than your stock 34mm PJ...
PWK's started showing up on MX bikes in the early 90's and the PWK A/S a little later.
Post a pic if you want an exact answer.

heres a pic. I think you are right, and it is a pj:

Yeah.. that is a PJ...
I could not tell you what the ID is for sure... I would bet it is a 38mm being that it is off of a KX250... you would have to measure it to be sure.
I replaced a stock carb with a 38mm PJ on my old 250R. It really woke it up.
Later I switched to a PWK A/S and could not feel a big power improvement when riding... I just liked having the newer technology on my quad.

Would the stock throttle cable fit the 38 pj?
Posted by: DPR250R
No it won't... without cutting the cap off (which I would not recommend)
Motion Pro, Eddie Sanders, Nacs all will be able to help you with this.
I think the cable that works on the 38mm PJ should also work with the 38mm PWK in case you decide to switch in the future.

Alrighty, thanks for the help.

This is a cheaper alternative, that seems to work fine. OEM Honda part 17910-964-000
Should work fine on all the PWK, and PJ carbs larger than 34mm. I was utilizing the MP cable before, but always seemed a hassle to get them. The Honda cable seems better all around to me. I initially got the tip from someone on this site-- thanks again-- to whoever that was. I couldn't tell you what machine the cable really belongs to.

thats the throttle cable number above. the 38mm a/s is found on the 2000 cr250r , part #16100-kz3-j21

Just seems like a big jump from 34mm to 38mm how much bottom end do you loose with a 38mm?
Posted by: lee37vernon
is that cable number for twist or thumb ??
Posted by: zedicus00
you shouldnt loose any bottom end going to a 38 A/S as thats why the fins are in the body...
seems to me it would be for a twist throttle but i cant say for sure.
Posted by: 86250rrider
thats for the stock thumb throttle. never think twist on quads because i dont like twist on quads at ALL. i feel the a/s is a great all around performer for my combo!

17910-964-000 cable works fine with the stock thumb throttle to PWK carbs.
