My friend who owns a Y says if u put a kick start on a Y that u dont need a battery and u have 2 put a maggeism magnet? wat do u all think? he said that some GNCC riders do it

yamaha's website says it can be done to the 2006 model but not the 04-05's

The kick starter kit can be used as an auxiliary or the primary engine starting system. If used as the primary starting system, the electric starter system can be removed to reduce overall weight (see caution below). Includes Kick Shaft Kit, Kick Crank Kit, Hot Start Cable, Aluminum Footwells and Plastic Footwell Extensions. (Individual Kick Start Kit Components also sold seperately).

CAUTION: If battery is removed on 2006 models for weight savings, install the Capacitor Kit (GYT-5TG97-50-00) to avoid electrical system damage. Battery removal on '04-'05 models is not recommended because ignition misfire may occur.
