Has Anyone ever changed the tranny on a 500 scrambler? A buddy of mine has a 99 500 and his tranny is effed so we are gettin a new one and want to put it in ourselves if it isnt too hard. The local polaris dealer said its a ***** to do because its conected to the engine, but I call bull****. If I knew how to send pics of it I would.

You will need to take the clutches off so you will need a polaris clutch puller. And then take the swing arm off. Unhook the shift linkage. and there is only a hand full of bolts holding the tranny in place. The only thing that connects the tranny to the motor is the clutches and the belt. It is not hard you just need to take your time and pay attention to what you are doing. Sounds to me your dealer is trying to scare you into having them do it to make more money.
