maybe it was just mine but the warp drive only lasted 2 rides and the thermometer quit working. but i found a better fix. I found a 500 degree candy thermometer at wal mart for like $5. the shaft size was the same so i took the nut off the warp drive and slid the candy thermometer in and replaced the nut...1 1/2 yrs still kicking. another plus the candy thermometer has a bigger temp guage so it is alot easier to see

Does It jiggle around like crazy when you ride since its not liquid filled? Can you take some better pics of it out im going to try and fab a "do it yourself one up"

Thanks Alot.

wow... thats a nifty idea, wonder how hard it would be to put in a digital one and hack a trailtech comp to show the oil temp also

that would be hot

it doesnt seem to jiggle around....1 1/2 yrs and still kicking...for $5 if it lasts 6 months it is cool by me. it is definitly alot easier to read than the quarter size thermometers on the other units. before i slid the thermo through the housing i put a lil bit of non hardening permatex inside the housing for a little added seal...the housing has an o ring for a seal. I thought about drilling a hole in the oil tank and welding an aluminum collar to the tank and mounting an automotive type temp guage on the bar clamps. that would be sweet you could also tap into the lights so the guage would be lit at night. I was going to do that but saw the candy thermo and figured for $5 I would give it a shot so far so good...it gets alot of stares

how much is it for one of those lit ones that you can mount on your bars? i'm sure it wouldnt be to hard to get it hooked up to your battary or lights like you said. I'd prob just mount it right on the bars next to the kill switch area

prolly about $40 for a decent automotive one some scrap aluminum for the bracket a few bucks for an aluminum collar and a good imagination and you are on your way

What did you have to do to that candy thermometer to make it work? I may try that.

How hot is to hot for a 400ex's oil anyways?

Posted by: bayou boy

I used the guts from a warp drive....just switched thermometers. they say 300 is hot...usually you can feel the power drop off just above 250. the only time it gets over 250 is if i keep drag racing it back to back other from that no problem

This might be a dumb question, but what's a warp drive?

Posted by: bayou boy

a warp drive is a thermometer that screws in the oil tank in place of the factory dipstick...click on the link in the 5th post to this thread

i thought colby from C&D told me they quit selling the warp drive for the 400ex...but i could be mistaken it for something else.
