i have the whole steering loose and the only part still connected is the seal at the bottom of the chassis. is there a lock ring in there ir what , and yes i took off the big nut there.......please advise, thanks.......do i beat on the bottom of the stem or what........

yes, there is a spring clip in there

the seals hafta come out and then there is a snap ring on the top side.

your stem must be rusted to the bearing, heat it up...spray penetrating oil on it and pound it out of the bearing. once that is out, remove the seal, the snap ring, and then the bearing will slide out (or pound out)

listen to this guy^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ you have to get the stem out first before you take the top seal, and snap ring out. The snap ring just holds the bearing down.

im pounding it up through right, or am i pounding it down through the seal, am i hitting the bottom or top of the sterring stem......

It comes up and out of your frame.

Stand the bike up its a lot easyer. Thred the nut on the stem a littlebit and put the 22mm socket or w.e it is and give it a few nice wacks. it will come outt. Yes the stem has to come out b4 the barring and seal.

Don't forget about the collar/sleeve that the seal rides against. Look at the schematic again. That has to come off first before the shaft can be removed. Douche it with Liquid Wrench then come back after an hour. Then smack it with a BFH
