I’m getting a new quad

Ok I am getting a quad next month and don’t know what quad to get. A Grizzly 660, YFZ450, or a 450R. I ride in little trails, a little sand, a lot of field riding, and a lot of racing with friends and a little little mud. Tell me how your quads treat you. Thanks

I would get either the YFZ or 450r. Between the two, you really have to decide which is right for you. They feel and perform (Very) differently from each other, and both are great. It is all about which suits your taste.

CHEVYZ dont you have a 450R? Just wondering

Posted by: CHEVYZ

05 and 06 450rs.

I would go with the yfz, cause it fits my taste of fast trail riding, and racing. But either 450 shall work pretty good for u.

that new Can Am 800 is supposed to be pretty sick! i believe it is coming out in 07. it has like the benefits of a utility quad (big tires, ground clearance, wide stance, beefy frame) but has an 800 motor and decent suspension for mild sized jumps like a sports quad. check that out! that sounds like you.

^^this is a great choice also, i guess it all depends on how hard you race, and what your friends have that you race against.

Yup... never thought of one of those. Could definately be something to consider!

I’m going to wait to see the reliability of it first before I even think about buying one.

any from Bombardier (Can-Am) extreamly realible beleve me I howned a Traxter 500 & a Quest 650 and thei never break down I sunk my 500 wather up to the handle bars I just drained the oil taht was full of water and turned the key and it was running just has good has new!

I think you should consider what you will be doing to your quad once you have it.

If you plan on leaving it stock then buying one that has a limited amount of aftermarket/performance parts available for it wont matter. However if you want to add things to it like skidplates, better pipe, rev box, graphics and such you should stick with the models that those things are available for.

yamaha has thier new suv quad, might be worth lookin at.

jmo for what its worth

dont get a 400ex joe...no offense bu way to much for you...i still say a 300ex

Posted by: Blue_Streak23

I personally would prefer a blaster over a 400ex.

Posted by: TRX23rider

a blaster does not even come close to a 400ex

Posted by: Blue_Streak23

Tim, you know if i put a 240 kit on a blaster i would smoke your ex.

Posted by: TRX23rider

1st off, no it wouldnt and second off, you would have to spend twice as much money on a blaster to get it to compete with a 400 and it would need a rebuild like every other day

Posted by: Blue_Streak23

Even with a modded 2-stroke engine, you would only have to rebuild it every year and a half or so.

>>PLus, DirtWheels had a project Blaster with a Vito's 240 kit and a complete LRD exhaust, and agreed it would beat a 400ex.

Posted by: TRX23rider

yeah cuz you can always trust dirtwheels reviews, they are biased at all

Posted by: Blue_Streak23

Actually, Dirt-wheels has some of the better open opinioned reviews. Also, why would they try to make a Blaster seem so good if it wasn't....?

Posted by: TRX23rider

lmao!!!

I see everyone here is very mature and can talk about a subject without getting at each others balls!

Posted by: tmoney

I would go with the 400 but you do what you want, and for the guy who started the thread, those can-am 800 renegades are $9000.00 I wouldnt even consider at that price

Not being Honda biased at all. But id pick a 400ex over a blaster or raptor. Blasters cuz i hate 2 strokes n im too damn big for it. Raptors cuz their power delivery sucks n i feel like im gonna die if i jump or turn they sit so damn high.

And ive had ride time on all 3 quads. I used to own a 400ex. A friend of mine had a blaster n hed never ridden anything but his blaster so i let him ride my 400 for the day. The only thing i liked about the blaster is i could do some nasty whips n turndowns its so damn light. So buy a blaster if u wanna buy shocks, a-arms, axle, 240 big bore just to make it to the 400s level.

I have another friend that has a raptor n recently bought a 450r. Hed like to sell the raptor but he cant fix everything on it. Heres a list of things that broke on his quad in the year that he had it..

Axle bearings, swingarm bearings, TRANNY (01), reverse broke?, starter clutch, carb boot, front bushings, chain roller bearing, an electrical issue, probly more but i cant think of it.

But in the year he had it it was broke 3/4 of the time. He also preferred my 400ex over it.

Just my .02

i got a blaster there fun but i would rather have a 4-stroke than a 2- stroke 4 r more dependable but i love my blaster get what u want not what the other guy likes

Posted by: 97blaster200

how are 4 strokes more dependable? ive seen guys with brand new 4 stroke quads and blow them up the first ride. my brother has a atc250r..hasnt rebuilt the top end since he got it. its been 5 years.

Posted by: ohsobad_chevy

4 stroke quads are more dependable to a certain extent. All depends on the owner of the machine.
