250R axle nut length

If someone has one apart, could you please measure the length of the threaded sleeve - part that butts against the brake hub (Honda calls it a bolt). I just want to make sure that it is longer than one from a 400EX before I buy one.

Thanks!

left '85 ATC250R 1 1/8"

right '86 ATC250R & '86-9 TRX250R 1 3/8"

Thanks Dez!
That explains it, you need the longer "bolt" to put a 250R axle on a 400ex.

yup, i'am doing the samething right now lonestar 250r axle in the 400ex. yes you need a trx250r nut. the 400ex nut will max out on adjustment, and still be 1/8" to short

Thanks Quad9!
I was given a "basket case" to make something out of. Hubs on the TRX250R are 25 spline too, the 400's are 24 in case you haven't gotten to that point yet.

yup i already got my trx250r hubs.
the 400ex rotor hub will fit it is the same spline
the 400ex hub nuts are to small, you will need 250r nuts.

now i just need to find me a swing arm, mine was trashed last week.

I must bestow some of my wisdom, the ATC250R and 400EX use the same threaded collar, which is shorter than a TRX250R, but you can use them if you use part number 15 in this diagram. This is the parts diagram for an '85 ATC250R.

In fact, even if you run the stock axle nut on a TRX250R, I recommend using it, since it gives the outer nut a few more threads to grab on.

Wisdom is good! The TRX250R longer collar is $34 from the local stealer. That adaptor is probably less. Thanks!

Does anyone have a mic handy and would measure the OD of their sleeve/axle bolt? The new one I just paid 34 bucks for is 1.883" and all the old ones I have are 1.872-1.874". Needless to say it doesn't fit. Thanks!
