2005 250EX problem

Went to start it and it would only start with the choke on full, it was 87*F degrees outside. I could rev it from half throttle and higher then it would die. It is getting spark but I'm leaning toward something wrong with the carb. What do you think?

Thanks

First of all, does it still have a warranty? If it does just take it back to the dealer you bought it from and show them what is wrong.

It could probably be bad gas, clogged airfilter, or clogged carb I would guess. Do you have any modifications such as a new exhaust pipe? If you do, did you rejet?

It's a year old and completely stock.

Are you reving it up with the choke on? If you are the the problem. You shoulden't need a choke in 90 dreg weather.

clean/re-oil air filter, install new spark plug, clean everything in your carb w/ carb cleaner, that should take care of your problem.

also make sure the 2 nuts holding the carb to the intake manifold are still tight. they can and do come loose from time to time.

I know I shouldn't need the choke but that is the only way it would start. I was revving it without the choke and then it would die. I won't get a chance to mess with it until next week. Thanks.

Alright then let it warm up for about 10 mins. If it still does it clean the carb and air filter then put a new spark plug in it.

If you are talking about the first startup of the day, my 2002 250EX reacts the same way. Before warmup which takes a while, as the 250EX is very cold blooded. I have reduced the problem by opening the air bleed on the carb. 2 1/2 turns ccw from full closed and by replacing the stock battery with an after market. My stock battery, full charged would not maintain a terminal voltage above 9VDC, when cranking cold. Which is apparently marginal for spark and other electronics on the 250EX. If you are talking about a warmed up, previousily run that day in 87 F weather, you have other problems.

This was the first start of the day. It never did this before.
