Which brand reed cage is the best and ive heard of the Cr cages beeing used are they better than the TRX. Anyone have one for sale at a reasonable price.

I asked a guy here who have a really fast R and asked it which was better between a v-force 3 reed cage or boyesen and he said that I was wrong in both case...He said he uses the CR one as you said (Don't remember which year though)

I just started using a cr cage last year! I think it's from a '98 but I don't remember! Anyways, it sure woke up my bottom end and throttle response! Mind you I was coming from a stock cage with boysen reeds of unknown age so anything would have been an improvement! It sure was worth the $40 I paid for it!

CR and Boysen are both great for low to midrange engines ang give VERY good throttle responce. if you ar doing a top end engine get v-force 3's.

Do you put boysenreeds on the Cr cage or go with the stockers.

You got it switched around, for top end max performance, you want a Boyesen Rad valve due to the stiffer reeds. For more low end throttle response, go with the V-force reed cage setup. The V-force's have softer reeds compared to the Rad valve which is better for low end. My two buddies with 86's have the '98 CR 250 reed cage setup while I owned both the V-force and Rad valve and all three are a HUGE improvement over stock setup. Honestly, after running all three for years, I don't think you could go wrong with any three of these vs. stock setup.

have you ran the v-force 3's? they are the thickest carbon fiber reeds ive ever seen on anything.... they actually decrease bottom end power noticeably but on top end they hold up great, dont flex at all, and really let her scream.

I didn't notice the 3 on the end of V-force, I have ran the older style, not the 3's so I don't know about the V-force 3 setup. Any reed that is stiffer will generally give more top end and sacrifice a little bottom and vice versa.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but how often should reeds be replaced. I have the rad valve and i'm not sure how often they're supposed to be changed. Anyone have any ideas.Thanks.

the only real way to tell is to look at if they look worn on the edges or have chips started then they need replaced, and hold them up to the light and check the gap u want them to be tightly closed to big of a gap means wore out.
