250R Bars Jamming !!!

Something weird happens sometimes with my 250r, mainly when the suspension is compression itself (IE: Doing donuts in sand)...The tie rod end / ball joint bolt go over the a-arms and jam my handlebars. I have to compress my suspension to get it out of there... It's like it goes over it's turning radius. The stopper on the stem are not blocking, like it's not the correct stem. My 300ex was doing the exact same thing. It's somehow funny since I was just doing some donuts but it's worrying me a bit since it wouldn't be funny if I would take a turn in 4-5-6th gear and the handlebars would jam like this

I could try to weld a little block near the stopper to the max of the bars turning radius...

Any ideas fellow 250r riders ?

Are you sure the tie rod end is on the correct side of the stem? The tie rod ends should be on top, with the nut on the bottom.

Yes the nut is on the bottom and it's going over the lower a-arms

I have heard of people grinding down the stoppers on the frame or steering stem to acheive a smaller turning radius. But I haven't heard of anyone's jamming like that.

Get a pic of the front end when it is jammed up. I could tell more from that.

Could be from a slightly bent steering stem. Mine kinda did that once. Turned out, the bottom stops were tweaked allowing it to turn more.

Man you must be standing on the bars to get that 250r to turn that mutch are you sure your not talking about a 350 Banchi

i used to have the same problem with my burgard a-arms racing flat track but i then cut them appart and made them adjustable and havent had problems since

Wow is your stem bent? I have had 5 250R's and raced many yrs before going to car's. and i never had that problem.Is your stem loose? Is the stem Bearing bad? Are your A-Arm bushing's wore out? Them are a couple of thing's i can think of.

Don't know what the primary cause is, but I can say the wheels are jamming because the stem stopper is completly useless !

dude you should not be able to turn the wheels in anywhere near that far. im guessing the turn stopper is gone completly and its turning about till the wheel touches the a arm?

Yeah looks at the stopper on the stem, looks completly useless...

And by the way, are those shocks OEM 250r...doesn't looks like it

Like others have said, something must be wrong with your stem and/or stoppers. First and foremost, you should never even be ABLE to turn your wheels that much to allow them to hang up.

What do you know of the history on your frame? Is it possible that somebody modified it for tighter turn radius?

Your first step would be to determine if your problem is the stem, or the stoppers on the frame. You may need to find another 250r to compare to and take measurements.

If it's the stem, get a replacment. If it's the frame, ask around and find a good welder to put a new chunk of steel in and build up the stopper to fix the problem. Again, it may be helpful to find another 250r to get measurements when you're fixing. You don't want to put TOO much metal on, and then loose some of your turn radius.

Thanks, I have a really good friend who just bought a R too and could give him a call to get some measurements, I seriously think my problems are the stoppers though...

And by the way, I have no idea of the history of the frame

i dont know if this helps but my cousin had a LRD frame on his with JD a arms and he has to shave down part of the frame for the tie rods to pass, his bars would lock up.

Another question...

Are those A-Arms 250r a-arms ?

What are those shocks, I'm 100% positive they aren't stock 250r's...
