Where do you ride on the south canadian river? Are there any facilities? like restrooms or camping?

Posted by: DaleJrFan

I go ride the Canadian in Purcell, which is about 90 miles from the Texas border. It is very primitive, the closest bathroom facility is the Loves gas station back in town and you can camp where you want to. It has always been a day trip for me but I have seen people pitching a tent right there in the river bed before.

So you ride the river bottom there in Purcell?

You must live in OKC?

Do you have any problems, in other words is it legal to ride there?

We go to Purecell about 4 or 5 times a year. I personally havn't had any issues going to or from the river bottom but there has been instances of kids messing with a busy set of rail road tracks that you have to cross to get to the river. The local police dept told me that the access road to get into the river is owned by a local oil company to get to their wells but the river bottom itself is state property so they dont have any juristiction over us riding and don't have a problem with the responsible riders using the road to get to the river. Once again it is a matter of common sense and respect for others property to take advantage of a great riding area that a couple of bone heads have messed up doing making it a questionable area to ride.

And yes, I live in OKC.

Thanks for the info, I will defenately have to check it out sometime. I have family in OKC, so I could always go stay with them and hit the river.

Thanks again
Jim

Let me know when your coming and I will give you directions and hopefully meet you down there. You will have a good time but from now to September, it is going to be hot as hell in the bottoms there so be prepared.

Cool sounds good. I am going to go to Lake Murray this saturday after noon and ride through the night to beat the heat.

Take it easy

I ride at Big Red ATV Park which is just south of Tecumseh on HWY 177. He has 160 acres which doesn't sound like a lot, but there is about 9 miles of trails there. The owner is always there and the facilities are nice with drinks available.

Plenty of hills to climb and if you like mud there is a wet creek and a pond to get you good and wet if you like that.

The trails are well marked with easy, medium and hard.

Great place to have fun for the whole family.

I live in Purcell and I ride there every weekend. Saturday and Sundays.

Fee is 8 bucks per rider and be sure to tell Joe that David sent you.

Here is a link to the website.

There is a map on this site. See you there!!!!!

Hey we like riding at purecell too but last weekend the cops were there by the train station taking names and said that we can not use the road anymore. They dont care about riding on the river but no more using the road to get the river or they would arest us. We also use to get on the river by sw149th and I-44 and the cops did the same thing. I dont blame the cops they are just doing there job. Where else can we get on the river at????

Next time you guys go to Lake Murray shoot me a line. I'm in Lawton and have never been up there but the wife is bugging me to go.

We usually ride in Elgin on the trails or on Fort Sill.

Will do, I would recommend not going for a week or two to let all the water dry up a little from the last rain.

How do you get to this place on Ft. Sill and is there a lot of riding?

Posted by: AbnMP13

There's nothing to mention about riding on Ft. Sill, I got there cause it's close and doesn't cost anything. It's a pain to get on post unless you have a post decal.

Posted by: nadsz400

I do have a DOD sticker but I'm stationed at Sheppard 45 min away. Just looking for somewhere new to ride.

Posted by: AbnMP13

It's not worth a 45 minute ride.

You ever ride at Murray?

Posted by: nadsz400

I've been wanting to ride there for quite a while but never made the trip. One day, I'll eventually make it there.

Posted by: AbnMP13

With the weather changing like it did today, I ain't gonna make it there no time soon, that's for sure.

Posted by: jread14

What about Truner Falls? They have something like 6,500 acres to ride. I have never ridden there but I am sure you can find sothing to do on that much land. Bulcher is also a great place just south of Lake Murray.

Posted by: DaleJrFan

check out atvpathfinder.com.You have to register to access the search but they list alot of riding areas.

Posted by: theath363

In in Bartlesville and looking for somewhere local to ride? I have to work way to much and saving some money on gas at the same time. Anyone know of anywhere to ride local?

Wow, this was an old thread to be digging up from 2006....

Big Red Off Road Park is still going strong. The current rate is $7.00 per day, but I think it will soon go to $10.00. This is still cheaper than Draper lake who now charges $15.00.

We have a new website too: http://bigredoffroadok.com

Check out the trail pics in the photo album link.

Trails are up to 12 miles now.

The park is privately owned so the new state law does not apply at Big Red.

Come on out and check it out.

Yes, you are riding through the trees, but on sand.

Sahara is awesome, pretty good size dunes, some decent hill climbs and some good trails.

This is us playing on a little climb:

Another place that is very close to the OKC area is lake draper. Pretty decent trails for as close as it is. I think there is 10 miles of trails for us to ride and some 50 for dirt bikes. if you live in the OKC area its worth the short trip out there. I am going to school in norman and dont really know anyone with a quad up here so let me know if yall are planning a trip anywhere its getting pretty old riding alone!
