ok i have an 05 z400 it will idle good but when u rev it up it starts backfireing and spits and sputters please help

could be a clogged jet or just jetted wrong all together. and make sure your choke isnt on, sometimes people forget about them. mine did that like you described and i had little pieces of sand/dirt in the bowl for what ever reason and it made it sputter.

could it be a vacume hose i dont know if i put it back right when i took it apart none of the hoses are connected

if your airbox lid is off then put it on and see if it makes it better... Sounds like your jetting is off.

The choke has been known to get stuck on these quads. I suggest buying a pull choke off Ebay for like 10 bucks. Also, not to insult your intelligence, make sure you have plenty of gas in the tank. Only other thing I can think of is jetted improperly if it is jetted, or you took the air box lid off without jetting. Post up after you check those things.

plenty of gas lids on but the hose from the tank to the cab isnt on but its not the one with gas comming out some one please take a picture of where all the hoses go and come from the carb

Will it Rev in neutral?

I had a similar problem, my quad revved fine in neutral, but once in gear it would NOT rev, and it would just bog and sputter.

I had to replace my CDI
