this is a dumb question to most of you im sure, ive just really gotten into self maintenence on my quad and so far i can adjust valves, change oil, the easy stuff, but when it comes to clutch adjustment im kinda lost, how do u know if u have to much or not enough slack, and how do u fix either problem, thanks for answering this simple question lol i just dont feel like ruining my clutch cuz i was to cocky to ask. thanks

You should have a little bit of play in the clutch lever, but not much. You can adjust it in 2 places, up by the perch (lever) and then by the clutch cover (right side) Pretty self explanitory if you look at it. You can adjust it at the perch by loosening the pinch nut and then backin the pull bolt out and then tightening the pinch nut back up to hold it in place.

A 400EX should have 10mm to 20mm of play measured at the end of the stock clutch lever.
