my buddy has an 06, and it rarely rarely comes on... we ride hard and long, and it hardly ever needs to... the hottest it gets is usualyl if we are just putting over to the hill in the little choppy dunes...

Try putting around real slow on a high gear, that usually makes the fan come on. Mine is rarely on.

Does anyone know what the Temp. range of the fan switch is?

Fan thermoswitch:
Opening temperature 95 ~ 101 °C (203.0 ~ 213.8 °F)
Closing temperature 89 ~ 95 °C (192.2 ~ 203.0 °F)

i found the power out to the switch and bypassed the temp switch and put it on a toggel so i can turn it on whenever i want

Can you take pictures and make instructions on how to do this?

from what i understand the fan only comes on when the engine is quite warm.
Manual toggle twitch over-ride sounds like a good idea!
(Small price to pay to keep your engine cooler in the trails)

Been woods racing for 8 years now and went to the new ( 2004) YFZ then, this past month been having some problems w/ the 04 over heating light coming on and fan kicking on.
I have had a flywheel weight in it from day one and did a sprocket change this season and started over heating.
I went though all the normal suspects and found nothing, then I went into the parts site for Yamaha and found that the 05 and 04 have the same thermo switchs and the 06 doesnt. My guess is they found they had a problem w/ them and fixed it , I bought 05 thermo switchs for my 04 and put in some of the new engine Ice anti freeze and has worked so far.
Now remember these switchs have nothing to do w/ the flow of fluid in the engine they are only indicators not thremastats.
Make sure you dont have a blown head gasket as well and check your clutch , is it slipping alot now , remember that the YFZ has alot of power and it may sound like you are blowing your tires
( Spinning) but you may be slipping the clutch. Just thinking out loud.
Good Luck
