I am looking to make a purchase of either a yfz450 or a 450r prabobly a 2004. I have three friends with z400's. two of them with pocket books MUCH deeper then mine. One of them is doing a 12.5:1 440 kit as we speak. and the other two are short to follow. So how will a stock yzf or 450r match up to that as far as straight line power? Also wich one of the 450's will respond to cheaper mods better? Im talking like exhaust, ignition, air box, maybe a cam and port job, but nothing real expensive, or extensive.

if you get a yfz you can do a mod called the cam mod...its free and makes a huge difference. my guess is that the yfz or 450r will be more reliable since they come in a 450 from the factory....but with motor work the suzukis are pretty fast...id go with the yfz if i were in the market for a new quad...hope that helps a little

Go with a 450r! The z440 might be you if you are totally stk but put a pipe and cam in it and you will blow them away.
