So i replaced my exhaust and header pipe with a curtis sparks x-6 system, and put in a uni air filter. Now if it sits and idles it seems like it is running to hot, and it begins to smoke were the header bolts up to the head. I can not tell exactly what it is, but it is def getting to hot. Any help?

make sure your head pipe is seated correctly, mine did the same thing and i removed it and re-installed it and now it is fine.

i just rebuilt my engine and my pipe was smoking because i had been tuching it with my hands and it was just burning off the oils from my hands. give it a ride or 2 and see if it stops.

I have 2 reasons possible..
1) I doubt this reason but, you may have too much power in the engine and not enough from the sytem to control the power output... doubtful because sparks are great exhuast
2) you may have water still wet or oil or any other liquid burning on the head pipe take the pipe off clean it thouroughly and re-install.

Took it off and cleaned it out a little. Seems to have solved my problem. Thanks for the help.
It still seems like it is running a little bit hotter than stock. Is this a symptom of the aftermarket exhaust?

not jetted right

ya its somewhat normal it should be hot but not super hot. If it is just hot to where u can hold ur finger for more then 5 seconds without gettin burned after a 1/2 hour ride its all good... If I were you I would first wash my atv and then clean the exhuast and headpipe thouroughly and then have fun and ride... jetting wont cause heat it causes blue smoke and sparks, the heat wont be in the headpipe it will be strictly in the exhuast due to the heat is getting hot once it is pushed out by the exhuast and it is not pushed from the header

So if I am not jetted right, I am to rich or to lean?

Did you rejet when you installed the pipe?
Anything that allows more air to get into or out of the engine will require richer jetting. Lean jetting = too much heat.

I am at a 170 main right now. I went to a 175 and the plug was a little black with some hesitation, so I went down one and it seems to run great.
