416 wont charge

As it says my 416ex wont charge but itself. Everytime i ride it i need to jump it or charge it. Does anybody have an idea of what could be causeing this? When it starts it runs fine. Its just the problem of me always having to kee my quad on cause it wont start if i shut it off.

Maybe your battery is bad. A bad battery won't hold a charge even if the charging system is working. Maybe try taking the battery out and putting it on a charger to see if it will take and hold a charge or take it to an auto parts store and have it tested.

I tried that. Its a brand new battery

If that's the case then the first thing is to check the current leakage from the battery. Disconnect the negative battery cable and connect an ammeter to the neg cable and neg battery terminal (+ probe to - cable, - probe to the - battery terminal). 0.1mA is the max allowable. If you've got more than that then you've got a short somewhere. Start disconnecting things until the leakage draw normalizes to find the leak.

If that all checks out than you'll need to check the charging voltage and/or the regulator/rectifier and/or the alternator charging coil. Probably best to get a service manual for the procedures on checking those items.
