I broke my old paul turner 89 race pipe. So I need a new one. I was happy with that pipe. I am stuck Between the esr type 5 and the fmf fatty 'torque' from rockymountain atv. Any help would be great.

P.S. I know sparks are good, I just can not find one

Get a sparks off of ebay they for less than a brand new fmf pipe. i would go with esr personally, but out of every pipe sparks is the best

^^^I'm with stupid^^^ I don't think sparks sells thier pipes anymore, unless you buy one of thier compleate top end kits. But look on ebay, or the forums here for a used one in good comdition. I have a sparks pipe, and my motor is mostly stock, and she rips.

look for either a used LRD or Curtis Sparks. those would be your best bet

The fmf fatty is a great pipe for the price. I had a fmf fatty until i just recently got a sparks. The fatty's are good pipes. I would recommend the regular "fatty", i think thats what its called, it's more top end oriented, as opposed to the torquer.

fireburns99 how do you find the sparks next to the fatty .. ? is it mx or TT big bore or std pipe ?

Posted by: fireburns99

The sparks is the TT. I haven't really got a good ride on it yet, but i had to rejet and so far i've gone one jet up. Them one thing that i did notice is that the powerband seemed to be smoother, but i was also running a little lean up top when i tried the TT. I will hopefully dial it in this weekend, and let you know.
But the TT sounds better, it doesn't see, to resonate as much as the fmf.

The fmf pipe is a great pipe for the money. I'm not saying that its the best, but for $175 new, it produces good power, and it's great for all around riding. Yes the LRD and Sparks are probably the best, but there also getting incredibly hard to find, and expensive.

Posted by: SET THE STAGE

there's like 3 or 4 LRD's on ebay right now.

Posted by: fireburns99

I checked last night for a sparks pipe, and there were none. And 4 LRD pipes out of 20-something pages of parts for the 250r. I would say that qualifies them as getting hard to find. And thats exactly what i said.

Sparks makes the best pipes out there, I have an MX and TT pipe and they both fit great and make tons of power. Best you can get.

I replaced my ESR TRX5 pipe with a FMF Fatty and was shocked at the difference. On a stock jug, the Fatty has a stronger bottom and midrange, but less over-rev, so unless you ride dunes, the FMF fatty is easier to ride and more enjoyable than the TRX5 ESR pipe.

I'm with fireburns on the FMF....awesome pipe for the money, and it seals AND fits better than the ESR!!
