I just bought a 2000 ex and they are great for trails mud and hills. I think you would be very happy with one, plus you should be able to beat your friend.

Ya the 400ex is a good quad (Especially if your new to the sport) but its also very problem free, great for trails and hills, and some mud... And for your age I would skip the 300 and go straight to a 400, I was about your age when I got mine, and don't regret it at all..

I think it would be a great choice.. as long as you don't go too deep in the mud.LOL

great choice you will be able to keep up with the kids on the bikes too. if you put some money into it (not alot) you could even beet them in a drag. my freind has a yz85 and we raced up and down a grass strip and we stay neck and neck the whole time.

The 400ex is bottom line the best quad you can buy for the money. They are perfect for starting out and you can easily modify them when you want to go faster. Parts are cheap and it is a GREAT trail quad. I'm more comfortable on mine then any quad I have ridden...
